Bailey took a deep breath and looked at him expectantly.
“Okay, go ahead. Why are you becoming more and more like a long-winded woman?”
Edmund laughed and forcibly pushed her back onto the chair. Sighing, he said, “If he had gone alone, I would have gone with him no matter what he said. But that's not the case. Your brother is with him, so relax.”
Bailey breathed a sigh of relief, but before she could say anything, footsteps suddenly sounded outside the door.
In the next second, Gwendolyn led Steven and Waverly into the room.
“Bay, the Shurmers said they wanted to see you, so I brought them here.”
Bailey responded with a nod but didn't pay much attention to the couple. She picked up her fork and started eating without any expression.
Waverly looked a little embarrassed and stammered for a while before finally asking, “I heard you were involved in a car accident. I came to see you. Are you okay?”
Bailey shrugged and said in a light tone, “My mother-in-law saved my life with her own, so now I'm her true daughter even if she didn't give birth to me. Did you come here late at night just to see me, Mrs. Shurmer? If that's the case, please leave. I'm an unlucky woman and don't deserve such an honor.”
Waverly pursed her lips while looking at Bailey's cold expression. Bailey looked very unfriendly, her eyes devoid of any warmth. This made Waverly feel uncomfortable and upset.
Her husband was right; all their biological children had turned their backs on them.
“Although I don't agree with you coming back to the Shurmer family, we're still related by blood. I was really worried when I heard about your accident, so I came to see you in the middle of the night.”
Bailey raised her eyebrows and looked at her with a slight smile. “You're worried about me? Okay, then agree to let me go back to the Shurmer family and announce to the world that Zoey is just a foster daughter, and I'm the real daughter. That way, you can show your sincerity. Otherwise, I'll treat you as a stranger.”
Waverly struggled to contain her anger but couldn't help raising her voice after hearing Bailey's words. “Bailey, you...”
“If you didn't come with sincerity, then please leave, Mrs. Shurmer. Goodbye, and I won't bother to see you out.”
Waverly was speechless.
Inside a suite of a five-star hotel, Scarlett tightly held onto her phone, waiting for good news from Zoey. Unfortunately, she didn't receive any news from Zoey, only a call from Raiden.
As soon as the call connected, her brother's first words were, “Did you cause that major accident in the suburbs of Hallsbay?”
Scarlett's fingers trembled, and the phone almost slipped from her palm.
“R-Raiden, what do you mean? How could I, Lady Scarlett of Chanaea, treat human life like trash? Don't accuse me without evidence.”
At the Saviors branch, the person in charge rushed into the lounge and said to Zayron, “Sir, they all took their own lives by taking poison. There are no survivors or clues left behind.”
Zayron's expression turned grim.
He had hoped to pry open their mouths and get some useful information from them, but after trying for most of the night, he had nothing.
Zeke shook his head and said, “Investigate the entire branch and check out these people's social circles. See if we can find anything new.”
“Yes, sir.”
With that, Zeke stood up from the couch and said to Zayron, “Let's go back first. Don't rush it. We'll take them down one by one, starting with Scarlett.”
“Okay.”
In a ward at the psychiatric hospital, Rhonda reached out and smashed everything on the bedside table to pieces, then held her head and cried out in a hoarse voice, “Why am I not crazy anymore? I wanted to stay mad forever! How could you be so cruel and allow me to remember that disgusting and filthy experience?”
The doctor next to her said to the nurse, “Tell Ms. Bailey that she has returned to normal and that this drug won't let her escape from her memories. She'll live in pain every day, reliving that experience over and over again.”
