“You idiot! I've been dismissed from my position and am now under investigation because of your crap idea. Listen carefully. I've been sacked, and I'm now under investigation. Just wait. You'll be downgraded from the mayor's daughter to a down-and-out pretty soon,” Jacques snarled.
When she heard what Jacques said, Laura gasped in shock and stumbled backward before falling onto the couch.
“We're doomed. Our family is done for. What are we going to do?”
Jacques was dejected. He no longer cared about his image as he felt his knees buckle and fell butt-first onto the ground.
“What else can we do? Just wait to serve jail time. I fabricated evidence to slander Bailey. I'll be put behind bars once they find out about it.”
Laura started crying.
Chloe turned pale, unable to accept the bombshell her father had just dropped.
I thought I was awaiting the good news of Bailey going to jail. I didn't expect to receive this news from Dad instead. Is this how it feels to fall from heaven to hell?
“In other words, you're saying I can't do anything but swallow my pride and watch in hatred as Bailey goes on with her bright future? She set a trap and framed me, which made me lose my innocence and become the laughingstock of the entire upper-class society! Yet you won't help me make her pay for what she did?”
Laura staggered as she made her way over and grabbed Chloe's arms. Sobbing, she said, “Admit it. Bailey is too smart and capable. Even your father can't do anything to her, much less you.”
“No!” Chloe shrugged out of Laura's grip and yelled, “I won't let her live a good life! I want the people who harmed me to pay me back tenfold! Since I'm having a hard time now, Bailey shouldn't be living happily. Either we fight to the death or perish together. If I don't get to live anymore, then she shouldn't think of living her life in peace, either. Even if I die, I'll drag her to hell with me!”
With that, she stumbled out the door.
Laura wanted to go after her, but Jacques grabbed her arm and stopped her.
“Ignore her. Let her be crazy. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have offended Bailey and faced such a consequence.”
Laura was furious. Hearing her husband telling her to ignore their daughter, she yelled, “Do you really think you offended Bailey because of our daughter? Jacques, don't paint yourself to be such a great person. If you didn't have thoughts of getting promoted, you wouldn't have buttered up to Howard and helped him to fabricate evidence.”
A loud slap echoed in the air.
Jacques had slapped Laura across the face. “You stupid b*tch! Weren't you the one who threw a tantrum and begged me to help your daughter get revenge? Now that something bad has happened, you're blaming everything on me?”
“You hit me... Jacques, how dare you f*cking hit me!”
In the next moment, Laura lunged at him and scratched his face.
Following that, screams, insults, and crying echoed throughout the West residence.
Howard immediately called Tamara when he returned to his residence.
He told her about the situation at Hallsbay, but the other party coldly said, “When did I ask you to help me deal with Bailey? Do you know what crime you commit by slandering the first lady?”
When Howard heard that, his grip on his phone loosened, and the device fell to the ground with a thud.
It took him a while to regain his senses, but when he did, he quickly picked up his phone from the ground and dialed back the number. However, Tamara had blocked him.
He then dialed Scarlett's number but could not contact her either.
It was then that Howard realized the Fletcher family had abandoned him.
