Vincent was avenging Fiona by taking action against the Gezmond family.
He set Lionel up by drugging him to have sex with Kimberly in order to utterly shatter Victoria's dreams of marrying him, for he could not bear to see her wed the son of the man who had caused her mother's death.
Victoria promptly regretted her reaction to his actions.
She grew to hate him and refused to head home for six years straight as she assumed his greed was the reason for the Gezmond family's downfall.
Now that the truth was revealed, she knew she was completely wrong.
All the while, she passionately expressed her deep-seated animosity toward Vincent, yet he silently accepted it without ever divulging the truth to her.
He'd rather let her misunderstand him than tell her the truth about Fiona's death as he was afraid she'd break down upon learning the truth.
Dad, I'm sorry. I really am. I shouldn't have gotten involved with Lionel. I shouldn't have married the son of Mom's murderer! Lionel took his revenge on the Saunders family, and the repercussions of his actions have been devastating for me. Despite the pain I have endured, I have been left with nothing but a sense of futility and despair. I can hardly believe that all my suffering has been for naught.
Thud!
The door was kicked open, and in rushed Lionel.
He abruptly came to a stop when he caught sight of Victoria—her eyes were hollow.
Her reaction told him that he was too late as she had learned the truth.
“Victoria...”
His voice jolted Victoria out of her reverie. When she saw Lionel, she hollered, “Stay away from me!”
Lionel froze in his tracks and said anxiously, “Okay, I won't come to you. I will stay right here. Calm down. You mustn't get emotional.”
Victoria slowly raised herself up, ignoring the sharp, searing pain that shot through her abdomen. Tears pooled in her eyes as she rasped out, “You knew about it, don't you?”
Lionel hung his head and said bitterly, “Yes, I found out a while ago. Your father told me everything before he died. I'm sorry that my father caused your mother's death. I promise to pay for his sins.”
Victoria burst out laughing as she regarded him icily. “You are fully aware that he has committed a sin, huh? How can you possibly plan out our future so casually when you are aware of the full extent of the situation? Do you really believe that we will still be able to have a future together when your father is responsible for killing my mother?”
Lionel's lips twitched as though he wanted to say something, but the sight of her frosty gaze made him swallow his words. In the end, he said, “The animosity between the previous generation should not be something that we have to bear.”
Without hesitation, Victoria grabbed a cup from the bedside table and flung it at him.
Lionel was capable enough of avoiding the cup, but he stood still and allowed the cup to be thrown at him.
Bang!
A bruise appeared on his forehead as a result.
“Lionel, your father murdered my mother. We should never be together!” Victoria screamed.
Lionel flashed a bitter smile, as he had seen this coming.
Victoria was known for her stubborn and strong character, so she would never compromise after learning the truth.
He knew her well enough to know that she should not be told the truth.
In fact, Lionel was afraid of losing her and wanted to spend more time with her.
They had been through too many obstacles and were finally reunited, so he was determined to never let her go.
That was why he ended up agreeing to all the conditions stated by Victor.
Nothing else mattered more than Victoria and her daughter.
“Vicky, it is truly heartbreaking that you are choosing to punish me for something that my father did. I know that I cannot undo the hurt he caused you, but please do not shut me out of your life. Without you, I don't think I could go on living,” he pleaded.
