Lionel trembled violently.
I know Vicky has a unique physique, and it'll be difficult for her to conceive in the future. But what does that matter? Henceforth, I'll be her child, and she'll be mine. It'll be nice for us to support each other throughout the rest of our days. Verily, that would be great!
“Perform a D&C on her, and do your best to minimize the damage to her body.”
“Understood.”
Bailey did not perform the procedure personally.
It would be overly cruel to have her remove a dead fetus from within her best friend's body.
She could not bring herself to do so, nor did she dare to face it.
Those whom Lionel hired were likely the top obstetric experts in the world, so she believed they could handle it well.
“Call me if an emergency happens. I'll be waiting outside,” Bailey instructed.
Afterward, she walked out of the room, dragging Lionel along with her.
“Don't watch it. You might not be able to handle it. It's far better for you to avoid seeing it entirely rather than be pained by it,” she said.
Truth be told, Lionel was averse to doing so since he wanted to keep Victoria company through her suffering.
Exerting all her strength, Bailey hauled him away from the room.
In the corridor outside, she slowly released her hold on his arm.
“Are you really planning to give up just like this?” she demanded in a hoarse voice.
Shaking his head, Lionel chuckled woefully. “It's not a matter of whether I'm planning to give up right now. Instead, it's that of her willingness to see me. How am I to keep her company when she's so emotional?”
At that, Bailey shot him a cold look and asserted solemnly, “The more she's unwilling to see you, the more you must pester her shamelessly. Lionel, the grievances of the previous generation shouldn't be paid for by the next. You shouldn't be bearing your father's sins.”
“I know.”
“It's to be expected that Vicky can't accept the truth of her mother's death when she'd just learned about it a while ago. Give her some time. She'll understand. As for having a child, it's actually not a problem. When the time is right, I'll just perform IVF treatment for you both.”
“Thank you.”
Bailey initially wanted to speak further, but she swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue upon glimpsing Lionel's stoic expression.
He must be in excruciating agony inwardly from having just lost his child. There's no point in me chastising and lecturing him. No one else in this world loves Vicky more than he does.
At the hotel, Victor leaned against the headboard of the bed groggily and furiously barked at Sean, who stood at the side of the bed, “What are you doing? Couldn't you see that I was in dreamland? Why were you shouting about?”
The corners of Sean's mouth twitched violently.
Indeed, you were in dreamland. But then, it's time for you to wake up, for our dream of getting rich has been shattered.
“It's bad, Mr. Victor. Something huge has happened,” he said.
Victor rolled his eyes at him. “Your father is dead?”
Sean shook his head before handing the phone in his hand to the man. “The truth... The truth about the matter back then has come to light. We can't use that to blackmail Mr. Gezmond anymore.”
Stunned, Victor blankly took the phone from him and brought it close for a look.
What the heck?
He abruptly leaped out of bed and roared, “Who leaked this? Who the f*ck had nothing better to do and brought this secret to light?”
