Artemis gave her the side-eye and curled his lips into a half-smile.
“Do you have a grudge against that woman? It seems like you can't wait for her to die. What's the matter? Did something unpleasant happen between the two of you?”
Yvette shuddered, and her heart tightened.
She couldn't figure out why he would ask such a question, but upon reflection, she realized her actions had indeed been quite obvious. Did he figure something out?
After a moment of silence, she replied, “Leader, you must be joking. I stay in Tarragon's headquarters all year round, so how could I possibly interact with the head of the Saviors?
“I'm considered one of your subordinates now. In addition, I was the daughter of Tarragon's previous leader. Everyone in the organization would address me as “Your Royal Highness” whenever they saw me. I grew up in Tarragon since I was little, so that is my home. Now, the Saviors are invading Tarragon's territory and threatening the home I've lived in for many years. Therefore, isn't it normal for me to be hostile toward the leader of the Saviors?”
Artemis averted his gaze. A calculating glint flashed across his eyes as he uttered nonchalantly, “Your father should've left you with quite some power. We both know about this, even though no one says it aloud. This is not something that can be concealed. If you really want to help me with my troubles, you can dispatch those forces to deal with Bailey. I don't recommend you overstep the bounds. It'll be considered a great contribution if you resolve our current predicament. In that case, I can fulfill any of your wishes.”
He was extending her an offer, gradually luring her to make a move.
Only after she took action could he eliminate all her forces in one fell swoop, remove all the obstacles, and revamp Tarragon.
He needed to eradicate those who disobeyed him.
From then on, he would have sole control over Tarragon.
His largest obstacle at that moment was the forces and old subordinates left behind by the former leader. If Artemis wanted to get rid of them, he must start with Yvette and Dominic.
Once the two of them were taken down, all the forces left by the former leader would collapse.
That was also why he allowed Yvette to do as she pleased in front of him.
He could only prompt them to reveal their true colors by numbing their senses and lowering their guards.
Evidently, Yvette hadn't realized he had set a trap for her. After she listened to his words, a surprised look flashed across her face. I can't believe he's supporting me to utilize the forces left behind by my father to target Bailey. With his encouragement, what do I have to worry, hesitate, or fear about? I should just take action. All the forces left behind by my father have gathered at Dellmoor anyway. They could launch an all-out attack on Bailey after I give the command. I don't believe she can withstand a massive onslaught of assassins.
“L-Leader, can I really deploy the forces left behind by my father to assassinate Bailey and assist you?”
Artemis curled his lips into a wicked smile, arched his brow, and asked, “You'll be sharing my burden, so why wouldn't I agree?” “I've already issued a global kill order previously. Killing the head of the Saviors is a must and a mission I'm serious about. If you can lend me a hand, that's even better. You'll have made a great contribution if you can help me sort out this difficult situation. When we return to the headquarters, I'll give you whatever you want, and no one will be allowed to have any objections.”
Yvette suddenly clenched her fists as utter delight washed over her. Is he promising me the position of matriarch?
