Chapter 649 Do Not Let Her Die Here
“What do you want, Bailey? I know I've gotten in your disciple's way, but do you really have to harm me? What are you trying to do? Push me down the stairs? How can you be so evil?”
Bailey arched a brow upon hearing what Shirley had said.
At that instant, it dawned on her what the latter was scheming.
So, she's planning to tumble down the stairs to get rid of the baby in her womb. Then, she's going to frame me for her miscarriage. After all, she is kept in the dark, not knowing that the baby in her belly is not Zeke's. If anything unexpected happens when we tussle with each other, she could blame it all on me, driving a wedge between the family and me. This woman is so heartless. How can she sacrifice her own offspring just to frame me? Maybe she's aware that the Shurmer family has given up on the baby, so, in order to vent her hatred, she's trying to use it to bring me trouble. But she's the mother of the child! How can she use her own child like a tool? Just because the Shurmer family has abandoned the baby, she's planning to exploit it to the maximum extent. Just how evil can she be to commit something so unscrupulous for her own benefits?
At that moment, Bailey felt relieved that Zeke did not marry Shirley. Otherwise, peace would've eluded the Shurmer family.
Truthfully, this woman wasn't even worthy to be Zeke's servant, let alone his wife. Bailey thought that if Zeke had actually married Shirley, he would only be bringing shame and humiliation upon himself.
Suddenly, a scream rang out. Shirley let go of Bailey's arm and leaned back, tumbling down the stairs.
Bailey could have grabbed her to break her fall. With her quick reflexes and agility, saving Shirley would be a breeze.
However, she did not make a move. Since this woman has a death wish, I'll give her what she wants. I shall banish this scourge to hell and get rid of her once and for all.
Zeke and Waverly came walking out side by side, and they frowned simultaneously after witnessing the scene before them.
Shirley tumbled on the cobblestone floor after falling down the stairs. Then, clutching her belly, she let out shrill screams.
“Ouch! It hurts! My baby... My baby!”
Bright red blood flowed down her legs, instantly staining the floor.
Her pregnancy had been unstable, and in order to ensure the safety of the fetus, she had to be on bedrest for ten months.
It went without saying that her body was injured grievously after everything that unfolded, and it would be a miracle if the baby survived the impact of tumbling down the stairs.
Shirley looked down at her blood-soaked pants before shooting Bailey a glare, roaring, “You evil woman! He's your nephew! How can you treat this child so cruelly just for the sake of your disciple? Aren't you afraid of karma? Yes, I know you all dislike me, but the baby is innocent! How can you do something like this? Your brother loves and cares about you, and this is how you repay him?”
With that, she turned and looked at Waverly as she sobbed. “Mrs. Shurmer, I'm sorry I lied. I shouldn't have stolen the sperms and created a test tube baby, too. But this baby is still a Shurmer, and I should be the one to decide his fate. Does Bailey even regard the Shurmers as family now that she's done something so cruel to get rid of my baby? She did such a terrible thing just to help her disciple! Are you sure you're acknowledging someone as evil as her to be your daughter?”
Waverly merely stared back at her, unfazed.
She would've taken Shirley's side and accused Bailey if she didn't know that the baby in Shirley's belly wasn't Zeke's.
However, now that she had discovered the truth, she would not be fooled.
What is this girl thinking? What's the point of doing all this? She harmed herself just to frame Bailey, and what comes after that? What can she do to Bailey? Does she think she could deal a fatal blow to Bailey with this insignificant trick when so many top assassins worldwide had failed to harm her? She's way too naive. Not only does Bailey have Artemis, Edmund, Raiden, and Zeke protecting her, but she's also perfectly capable of defending herself. Shirley's actions of picking on the wrong person are proved to be fruitless, and in the end, she'll only lose everything.
Seeing how Waverly was indifferent, Shirley was about to continue adding fuel to the fire when an intense pain assailed her. Unable to bear the severe pain, she passed out.
Waverly shook her head and turned around to walk back inside. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. From today onward, Shirley will have nothing to do with the Shurmer family.
Bailey stole a glance at Zeke and smiled when she saw how calm he was. He showed no emotions, seemingly unconcerned about Shirley.
Looks like all your efforts are in vain, Ms. Gourd.
“Sammy, send her to the infirmary and have a doctor perform surgery on her. Don't let her die here. Otherwise, we'll have to go to court.”
“Understood.”
Meanwhile, in the dungeon of the Hoffman residence, Raymond stepped into the secret room where Juliana was imprisoned.
Juliana rushed over to her father and asked anxiously, “Where's Huntley? What did you do to him?”
Raymond's face remained devoid of expression as he looked at her. Complex feelings swirled in his dark, abyss-like eyes, consisting of heartache, disappointment, grievance, and ultimately, resignation.
That was right. He was filled with resignation, for as a father, he had no choice but to accept the fact that his daughter, whom he had high hopes for, had ultimately failed him.
“Tell me, Dad. Where's Huntley? How is he?”
Fixing his cold gaze on his daughter, he enunciated, “That kid is in control of half of the Hoffman family's power and is someone valuable. What could happen to him? You'd better worry about yourself because you're in a much dire situation than him. After all, the man you fell for has a strong background, and our family is worried that you might join forces with the Shurmer family and bring disaster to the Hoffman family.”
Juliana was relieved to hear that. Thank goodness Huntley is all right. I knew he'd be fine.
“Since you're here, Dad, I'm sure you have come up with a solution. Let's hear it.”
Instantly, the look in Raymond's eyes reflected his mixed emotions.
His wife passed away early, and he was constantly busy with the family's affairs, thus neglecting his daughters. The lack of proper companionship and education from their father resulted in huge, irreparable mistakes.
At the end of the day, he had failed as a father.
Even so, he couldn't act selfishly and release his daughter as that could bring about serious consequences.
After all, he wasn't just Juliana's father. He was also the head of the family.
Hence, he had no choice but to sacrifice his daughter.
“The elders have decided to let you keep the baby, but after you give birth, the baby will be sent to the Shurmer family and will be raised there. As for you, you're not allowed to leave the Hoffman residence ever again, and you're also prohibited from any contact with the outside world. You will stay in this dungeon for the rest of your life.”
Juliana couldn't help but chuckle upon hearing that.
She knew the elders were intimidated by Zeke's power, so they wouldn't risk letting her return to him.
Similarly, they dared not abort the baby in her belly for fear of incurring the Shurmer family's wrath.
