Chapter 653 The Mastermind
Olivia stormed into the hall of the medical base in a huff, determined to interrogate Bailey despite Christopher's efforts in stopping her from doing so.
She was held so tightly in Christopher's arms to the point that she could barely move, so all she could do was point her finger at Bailey while roaring at the top of her lungs, “Both you and that wh*re from the Revelle family are nothing but jinxes! You bring bad luck to anyone who gets acquainted with you!”
Yvette didn't contact Bailey directly. Instead, the former made a call to the Xuereb residence, informing Olivia that Justin had been kidnapped by her and that Olivia should look for Bailey if she wished to rescue her son.
Eager to save her son, Olivia went straight to the medical base in a panic without giving it much thought.
Only then did Bailey discover that Veronique and Justin were kidnapped.
I've got to hand it to Yvette. She targets those around me because she knows she won't be able to achieve a breakthrough by making a move on me.
Having known that information, Bailey acknowledged she was too careless. She protected all her friends in Hallsbay without considering the possibility that Yvette would attack Veronique and Justin, who were on a vacation outside of Hallsbay.
“Why aren't you saying anything? Justin is dragged into this because of you. The kidnapper specifically said they want you to rescue Justin and Veronique. If not, the kidnapper will kill them. In other words, it's entirely your fault that they are in such deep trouble! Why are you still staying quiet? Are you trying to sit back and let them die like this?” Olivia questioned.
Bailey snorted coldly. “Do you think this childish goading tactic of yours will work on me? I advise you to go home and wait. Stop wasting my time and getting in my way.”
“You!” Bailey's remarks infuriated Olivia, and the latter began to struggle violently in her husband's arms. “Let me go! I must kill her and make her pay the price with her life!”
The kidnapper claimed to be under Tarragon and stated that Justin's death would be imminent if Bailey did not show herself.
After all, Tarragon was the world's most powerful underground force. As such, the Xuereb family was totally powerless in the face of such a formidable force.
Simply put, if Bailey refused to take action, there was nothing else the Xuereb family could do other than watch Justin die.
“Calm down, will you? Ms. Jefferson didn't say she won't rescue them. She is simply asking us to return home and wait for news. Stop causing a ruckus here to waste her time. She needs time to make plans before rescuing them, right? How can she concentrate on making a plan if you keep making a fuss like this?” Christopher said.
Upon hearing that, Olivia glared at her husband and bellowed, “Does she look like she's agreeing to rescue them? She's just demanding us to get the heck out of here! Stop being so presumptuous!”
Bailey couldn't be bothered to deal with the couple and ordered Sammy, “Get Mr. Shurmer to go to the study. I need to talk to him.”
“All right.”
Olivia's shrill voice echoed behind Bailey as she walked up the stairs. “Bailey, if anything bad happens to Justin because of you, causing him to lose his life, I will do anything to kill you and make you pay with your life!”
In response, Bailey chuckled. This old woman has such a wild imagination.
Justin was Artemis' best friend, and Veronique was her best friend. She would do anything to save them, even if it meant risking her life.
Zeke pushed the door open and spoke as he entered the study. “Sammy told me the details on the way here. I didn't expect them to make a move on Justin and Veronique. Now that things have come to this, what's your next move? Have you thought of how to handle this yet?”
Tilting her head, Bailey side-eyed him and arched a brow, asking, “Don't you think it's strange that Yvette would succeed in abducting them without any hindrance? We know that Artemis didn't lose his memory, so Yvette's movements are all within his control. That woman sent someone to capture Justin and Veronique at Terrandya. Theoretically, Artemis would've known about this. Why would he let Yvette kidnap them without doing anything?”
Upon hearing her words, Zeke, who had just sat down on the couch, was slightly taken aback. “Did Artemis let Yvette capture Justin and Veronique on purpose? Is he waiting for that woman to lure you out using Justin and Veronique? If that's the case, I suppose Artemis had made thorough preparations to ensure Justin and Veronique's safety.”
“So we shouldn't focus on Justin and Veronique. With Artemis' aid, they shouldn't be at risk of losing their lives.” Bailey nodded and continued, “Our top priority right now is to negotiate with Yvette. We need to figure out what she's up to. I'm sure she's threatening me with Justin and Veronique because she wants me to meet with her. She could then look for an opportunity to murder me.”
Zeke nodded in agreement. “We shall wait for her to contact us, then. I believe she'll do so soon.”
Meanwhile, in a bedroom at the Shurmer residence, Zoey swept all the bottles and jars on her dressing table onto the carpet.
I've put in so much effort inciting Shirley to abandon the baby she was carrying and get Bailey involved in this so that Waverly would despise Bailey thoroughly. It was such a perfect plan. Yet, it ended with an unforeseen and dramatic twist. Haha! It turns out that Shirley's baby isn't even Zeke's. Genevieve simply inseminated Shirley with a random man's sperm. Can things get any more ridiculous than this? If I knew that the idiot's baby is only a b*stard child, I wouldn't have gone through all that trouble. Just the thought of doing all that for nothing makes me want to explode in rage. How is Bailey so lucky? I can't seem to destroy her no matter how hard I try!
Despite everything Zoey had done, she not only failed to sow discord between Waverly and Bailey but instead sparked Waverly's guilt toward Bailey.
Zoey could tell that Waverly had slowly come to accept Bailey.
In other words, Zoey had become the victim of her own meticulous schemes.
Beep!
Suddenly, the phone on the floor started ringing. She bent down to pick the phone up and answered the call while gritting her teeth. “What is it?”
“Ms. Zoey, Mr. Zeke ordered someone to seal the news about Ms. Gourd carrying an illegitimate child and the miscarriage. No one is allowed to leak the news. I'm reporting this to you because I think something is off about this.”
Hearing that, Zoey frowned slightly.
He's sealing the news? Why is he doing that? It's not like the Shurmers are affected by the news.
However, realization struck her as soon as she pondered the matter from a different perspective.
Zeke was probably worried that the news would reach the Hoffman family and reignite Juliana's hope, putting her in grave danger.
Since they don't want the Hoffman family to know about this, that's exactly what I'll do.
She would then instigate the Hoffman family to murder Juliana in secret. If not, the Hoffman family would suffer when Juliana joined forces with Zeke upon being released.
Once Zoey made up her mind, she grabbed her fleece coat and darted out of her room.
Juliana's death would undoubtedly cause the enmity between Bailey and the Hoffman family to escalate to a point of no return. Even if Zoey couldn't kill Bailey, she could still use the Hoffman family to teach her a severe lesson.
Concurrently, Holden entered the study at one of Tarragon's branches. After closing the door, he lowered his voice and reported to Artemis, who was sitting on the couch. “We've successfully hacked into Yvette's communication system and found the mastermind behind her.”
