Chapter 683 I Want To Slap You
“Yes, if the real daughter returns to the family, then will the imposter have to give up her place?”
“Will the Shurmer family kick Zoey out?”
“Are you planning to send her overseas, away from the Shurmer family?”
“Mr. Shurmer, please answer our questions.”
Steven's fists balled up.
I'm sorry, Bay. I have no choice but to do this. After I obtain the evidence and resolve the danger surrounding you, I'll explain everything to you personally.
“Why would I kick out my adoptive daughter, Zoey Shurmer, when she has done nothing wrong? Can't she stay with us even when my biological daughter returns?”
“Can't she stay with us even when my biological daughter returns?”
Bailey, who was leaning against the hospital bed, heard his words loud and clear. Her lips curled into a strange smile.
As she stared at the TV screen, her gaze slowly turned cold.
Zayron ran over and hurriedly switched off the TV, offering her a sheepish smile. “Bailey, remember you said he's a scum? Don't take it too seriously and think of it as just a show.”
Ugh, why did I switch on the TV? I thought my granddad would do the right thing, but the scum ended up provoking Bailey with his words.
Sensing Bailey's displeasure, Susan quickly climbed into bed and flung her arms around her mother.
“Mommy, remember how you said that we make you happy? Well, I'm right here in front of you. Will seeing me make you feel better?”
Bailey lowered her head and pressed a kiss to Susan's forehead.
Right then, the door was pushed open to reveal Zeke, who walked into the ward.
Zayron rushed over to him, his anger boiling over. “Don't you ever bring your scummy father around Bailey again! Bailey doesn't need her father when she has Artemis and me. Your family is too wealthy, and we are not worthy of being associated with you. Don't use the title of the Shurmer family's daughter to impress us. We love Bailey for who she is, and she doesn't need your family's wealth to make her better.”
Zeke laughed heartily and then turned his gaze to Bailey as he nodded. “All right, I promise not to bring them to your mother again. I'll make sure they won't upset her anymore. I've had time to think, and I've realized that your father can provide for her, so it doesn't matter whether or not she has her family's support. And if needed, I can support her as well. That's what really matters.”
Slowly, Bailey raised her head and met Zeke's gaze.
She could see the adoration in his gaze, and it was clear he adored her as a younger sister.
A soft chuckle escaped her lips.
I'm not willing to give up my brother, but that's all. I'm not interested in anything else.
“Zeke, where is Artemis?”
Zeke went over to the bed and wrapped his arms around her and Susan.
“He got drunk last night from drinking too much alcohol and is still asleep.”
Hearing that, Bailey furrowed her brows.
Alcohol was bad for one's health.
Zeke added, “Don't worry about him. He has been through a lot. If he cannot even handle this pressure, I might reconsider handing you to him.”
Bailey refrained from further inquiries as she knew Artemis wouldn't bring harm to himself. Instead, she shifted the conversation and asked, “How is Edmund holding up?”
“He was running a fever last night, but his fever has already subsided now.”
Bailey shoved both him and Susan away before rolling to the side and attempting to get off the bed.
“I'll have to pay him a visit. Last night, the doctor gave me a sedative, so I slept soundly and forgot to check on him.”
Zeke knew it was pointless for him to persuade her to change her mind as she was worried about Edmund, so he quickly reached out to help her.
“All right. I'll come with you.”
In another ward, Wendy finally regained consciousness.
When her eyes fluttered open, she saw a man sprawled at the side of her bed.
From his side profile, she could see he wasn't sleeping well as his brows were furrowed.
Seized by a sudden impulse, Wendy raised her arm weakly and brushed her hand across his stony features.
The man wasn't sleeping soundly, so he immediately opened his eyes upon sensing her action.
Caught by surprise, Wendy tried to retract her hand, but it was too late as he had already grabbed her wrist.
“L-Let me go!”
Holden disregarded her and spoke in a husky voice. “I took the medicine to restore my memory last night, and it worked. I've remembered everything now. I'm here, in front of you. Don't you have any questions for me?”
Wendy stared at him in a daze.
Wendy stared at him in a daze.
He took the medicine to regain his memory? Does he remember everything now?
“Wendy, as adults, we can think independently and handle this matter maturely instead of prolonging it. Since we already have a kid to tie us together, we'll likely be linked for the rest of our lives. If there's anything that you dislike about me, please let me know. Let's stay calm and work on resolving the issues between us.”
Wendy gave him an icy look. “Do you really want me to be honest? Fine, I'll do that. Back then, was your memory still intact when you used me to steal the Hoffman family's top secret and abandoned me after that?”
Her question rendered Holden speechless.
He wasn't a fool and knew the consequences of answering her question.
It might result in their relationship coming to an end, but he was aware that he couldn't lie to her.
“Yes, my memory was still intact when I used you to steal the Hoffman family's top secret. I still remembered everything when I abandoned you. I—”
A crisp slap echoed in the air.
Wendy was slow as she was injured and weak, so Holden could've avoided her slap easily.
However, he didn't move and watched as her slap landed on his cheek.
Given his influence and status, he had never been slapped by anyone. Wendy was the first to do so, but he was willing to let her.
After slapping him once, Wendy was still upset and wanted to continue slapping him, but he held her arm.
“Let me go!”
Holden directed his gaze toward her abdomen, cautioning her in a soft and gentle voice. “Don't move. Your stomach underwent surgery, and if the wound ruptures, your organs will be exposed.”
Hearing his reminder, she belatedly felt an intense pain flaring from her stomach.
However, she wasn't about to stop. “That is none of your business. I want to slap you now.”
“All right. I'll keep you company. Once your wound heals and scabs over, you can slap me all you want. I promise I won't retaliate.”
Wendy's cheeks were wet with tears, and anguish flickered in her eyes as she glared at him and shouted, “I told you I was pregnant! How could you be so heartless and leave me with the Hoffman family? Do you know how I managed to get through?”
