Caridee shuddered slightly. The voice sounded familiar to her. She felt like she had heard it somewhere before but couldn't quite recall where. Caridee slowly turned her around, her gaze falling upon the two young men behind her.
The sense of familiarity only grew stronger when she glanced at one of the men.
Realization dawned on her after a moment of silence. He was the man she had bumped into in the club's corridor the other day. The man had tried to drag her into a private room to take advantage of her, but she managed to break free from his grasp and escape.
What a small world! I never thought we'd bump into each other at the International Socialite Club. Scum like him is simply not worthy of attending such a refined party.
“Sorry, you've mistaken me for someone else.”
Having said that, Caridee turned around and prepared to leave. Astrid subconsciously turned her head and her gaze met with Tucker's. She quickly turned to look back when she noticed the look he was giving her.
“Caridee, I...” Caridee was determined to get away from the pervert and did not notice the change in Astrid's emotions.
“Let's hurry up and leave before that scum catches up with us. There are many reporters around here. We'll be in big trouble if they managed to take photos of us,” the former said anxiously.
Astrid bit her lip and the guilt in her eyes grew increasingly intense. She really wanted to give Caridee some hints, hoping she would take the initiative to leave the venue. However, she was also worried that Tucker would find out and get the Adley family involved in the end.
I'm sorry, Caridee. If something truly happens to you tonight, please don't blame me. I have no other choice.
Shaun saw the two women about to enter the elevator and quickly ordered the bodyguard nearby, “Stop the woman in the sky-blue dress for me.”
The bodyguard hummed in response, but before he could take a step, Tucker immediately raised his hand to stop him. Upon seeing him block the bodyguard's way, Shaun's face darkened.
Narrowing his eyes, he asked, “What's the meaning of this, Mr. Tucker? Didn't we agree earlier that after you've dealt with this woman, you'd send her to my bed? We agreed to cooperate immediately, and now she's right under my nose. What's the reason for not letting me catch her?”
Tucker smiled faintly, a sly glint flashing across his eyes.
“Yeah, I promised to bring her to your bed previously. Of course, I'd keep my word. However, I've arranged a lively and vivid performance for you, Mr. Carter. Are you sure you don't want to watch it?” Shaun raised his eyebrows, seemingly figuring things out. He suddenly chuckled.
“What do you mean, Mr. Tucker?” Tucker patted him on the shoulder with a mysterious expression on his face.
“We're both men, so you should be able to guess what I'm thinking. This is something that cannot be expressed.”
“Haha, all right, all right. This is getting interesting, very interesting indeed! Well then, I'll be looking forward to it, and I hope it'll satisfy me, Mr. Tucker.”
“Of course, Mr. Carter. This way, please.”
“Sure.”
After Caridee and Astrid entered the banquet hall, they tried to find a seat in the corner and sat down.
Upon seeing her cautious demeanor, Astrid couldn't help but laugh and said, “So many women around the world fantasize about being the legitimate daughter of the Luther family. But look at you! You wished for nothing more than to remove that label from yourself and not let anyone notice. What? Is being the little princess of the Luther family that unbearable?”
Caridee sighed softly and lowered her voice when she spoke, “I've always been low-key, as it's the family tradition of the Luther family. Many generations in my family have been like this, and I cannot go against the teachings of my ancestors. After all, what's the point of having more honor and respect? It's all given by our predecessors. The day we earn it ourselves is when we truly have the ability. Just look at Bailey. People don't respect her simply because she's about to become the matriarch of the Luther family. Instead, it's her own astonishing talent that has earned her countless admirers and the respect of many powerful figures.”
“Well, that's true, I—”
Just as Astrid was about to praise Bailey, she suddenly felt her phone vibrate in her bag.
“Caridee, I'm going to the restroom. Don't wander off and stay right here. Otherwise, I'm afraid I won't be able to find you in such a huge venue.”
