Chapter 908 Forget About Marrying Her
Tucker tapped the table with his fingers as a cruel, bloodthirsty smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
Even at this point, that brat still refuses to give up. She actually wants to overthrow me and reclaim the power I hold? No way!
He had never once compromised even when Sofie threatened him with those confidential documents and was determined to bring down the entire family with him.
Even now, he wouldn't back down an inch. If they truly harbored ill intentions, he was ready to perish along with the family.
I will never let them have their way either if I were to lose everything. I'd rather destroy what I don't get to have than let others benefit from it.
“Excellent. This plan is just to my liking. You've been working for me long enough to know what exactly is on my mind. Soon, I'll promote you to the position of the family's chief executive, entrusting you with the responsibility of managing our family's affairs. Stay loyal to me, and I guarantee you a life of prosperity and prestige, one that exceeds the ordinary.”
The bodyguard's heart leaped with joy, and he quickly nodded, saying, “I'll go arrange everything right away. Once everything is prepared, I'll report back to you.”
“Okay, go ahead. Remember to do it discreetly. Don't let those old geezers from the first branch of the family suspect anything. Wipe her out completely since we've made up our minds. Don't leave any loose ends, and certainly don't let her escape death and return to the family to annoy me.”
“Yes, sir.”
Tucker slowly rose from his seat and strolled over to the floor-to-ceiling window after his bodyguard left.
As he gazed in the direction of the main house, a malicious glint flashed in his eyes.
He even went so far as to exile and put his own father under house arrest to achieve his goal. There was nothing in this world he wouldn't do.
To him, fighting with his blood relatives and causing strife within the family was no big deal.
He had absolutely no qualms with killing two people because, in his eyes, human lives were as insignificant as ants, and he would eliminate anyone who tried to stand in his way.
Zoey found herself targeted by several factions at once. Relying on only herself to evade their pursuit was, without a doubt, extremely difficult.
After just a single day and night, she was starting to feel overwhelmed, as she could unmistakably sense her freedom of movement slowly dwindling.
Although she could use the toxins within her body to deal with those who were on her tail, her energy was finite.
Once her strength was exhausted, she would ultimately be left at the mercy of others.
She no longer feared death. In fact, she thought perhaps death would be the greatest relief for her.
However, she just couldn't accept the fact that Bailey and Artemis were alive and well, intimate and inseparable as ever.
Even if she were to meet her end soon, she wanted to drag Bailey down to the grave with her.
She would never let that woman obtain the happiness she failed to enjoy in this lifetime.
Hence, before her death, she was determined to create an opportunity to take that woman down with her.
In the evening, in the research base's laboratory, Bailey was in the midst of trying to concoct the antidote when her phone, which was placed on the shelf, began ringing.
Upon checking, it was a text message from an encrypted number: Bailey, do you want the confidential documents in my possession? If you do, meet me at Wusteria Resort in Maple Forest at seven o'clock tomorrow evening. But if you don't, I will publicize this document when the time comes, and the Hoffman family will be ruined.
Bailey's lips curled to form a sarcastic smirk when she read the message.
Both Kurt and Tucker are hunting Zoey down now. She seems to be at her wit's end and is now so desperate that she's eager to challenge me.
She was once the esteemed adopted daughter of the Shurmer family and a renowned international socialite, destined for a promising future. Yet, she was reduced to her current pathetic state all because of her ridiculous vanity and suspicions.
How tragic and pitiful.
Bailey replied: Sounds good. Let's meet at seven o'clock tomorrow evening then. I'll definitely be there on time.
No sooner had she put her phone down than Artemis and Zeke walked in from outside.
Artemis' curiosity was piqued when he noticed his wife's gloomy expression and her phone screen that was still lit.
“What's wrong? Did someone come messing with you again?” he asked.
Bailey remained silent, her gaze falling on Zeke.
“Zeke, Zoey has asked me to meet her at Wusteria Resort tomorrow evening at seven. I'm sure you know why she asked me out. Next, let's discuss whether you should go or I'll go instead.”
“I'll go,” Zeke said without a second thought. “Zoey is a scourge raised by the Shurmer family. Now that she's blinded by hatred and her existence in this world will only bring more harm to others, I, as the current head of the Shurmer family, have the responsibility to deal with her, to rid society of this major menace. Your safety can't be guaranteed if you go. There's a high chance you might run into trouble. But it's different in my case. She and I share a bond as siblings, so she'll at least show me some mercy. So, I should be the one to go.”
Bailey's expression was complicated as she thought of the confidential documents in Zoey's possession. She felt concerned for her elder brother.
“Zeke, you need to think this through. If you decide to keep this appointment, there's a high chance you'll anger Zoey. By the time she publicized the documents, the Hoffman family will become the target of public criticism, ultimately leading to their complete downfall. When that time comes, Juliana will likely lose everything, and that'll drive a wedge between you two. Even if Zoey comes to her senses and hands over the documents to you, what would be your choice? Would you destroy them, or would you make them public? If you choose to destroy the documents, the Hoffman family will be preserved, and it'll be over between you and Juliana because she'll be pushed to the position of the head of the family. But if you choose to make it public, the family will be ruined, and she'll hate you.”
Zeke tousled his sister's hair and chuckled. “I know that once I get involved, I will put myself in a difficult position. But only I can attend this meeting because there's no way I'll let you take the risk. Zoey has lost her mind. Who knows what crazy methods she might use against you? I'll eliminate anything or any factor that might harm you, and I'll never let you be in danger.”
Bailey's heart was instantly filled with warmth.
She knew Zeke cherished her deeply. From the moment they reunited as siblings, Zeke had been treating her like a precious treasure, the apple of his eye.
While he loved her as her brother, she loved him just as much as his sister. She cared about him and was concerned about the situation he was in.
The last thing she wanted was for him to be caught in the middle and be separated from Juliana for good.
“Zeke, Julie is very stubborn. You can't get involved if you want her—”
Zeke knew what she wanted to say, but he had already made up his mind. Nothing she said could change his mind, so he simply waved his hand dismissively to cut her off.
“I'm your older brother, and I'm much wiser than you are. Just listen to me,” he said before turning to look at Artemis. “If you don't want her to be in danger again, keep a close eye on her. I'll go meet Zoey tomorrow. Artemis Luther, if you go along with her reckless decisions and allow her to attend the appointment, you can forget about marrying her.”
Troubled, Artemis rubbed his temples in frustration.
Don't you know how stubborn your sister can be? What can I say if she does things the hard way?
Zeke snorted coldly before turning to walk outside. As he did, he added, “I have the final say in her marriage. You all better not cross me, or this marriage deal is off.”
