Half an hour later, Chad rolled in, despite it being the middle of the night.
Easton asked, "Does Molly know you're sneaking out like this?"
"Nah, she's out cold with the kid. I could cause a ruckus and they wouldn't stir. Anyway, fill me in on what’s going on with this guy."
Chad settled in with his crew, soaking up the details from his friend before stepping into the interrogation room.
"Well, well, a fresh face," the suspect sneered, eyeing Chad with a smirk. Noticing Chad's badge, he added, "Must be a big shot, leaving the office to deal with little ol’ me. I must be special."
Chad took a seat and pointed to the untouched coffee, "A sip might help you keep your cool. Don’t want you losing it later."
The suspect was intrigued but defiant. The more Chad pushed, the less he wanted to drink, his mind racing over what might make him snap.
Chad glanced at him, then flipped through the file, "I’ve read your file. Remember Mr. Hady, the officer who grilled you last time?"
The suspect, playing it safe, shrugged off any memory, acting clueless. "Nope, doesn’t ring a bell."
Chad stroked his chin thoughtfully, "Well, Mr. Hady remembers you. Heck, our whole class does. You were quite the topic when he was guest lecturing. Never thought I'd meet you in the flesh."
"What the hell? Did Mr. Hady really spill my story?" The suspect felt his pride taking a hit.
Chad stayed steady, "Told you, coffee helps with the temper. You're getting riled up."
