“Chad! You’re back?” Coleen exclaimed with joy.
Chad nodded. “Mom, how’s everything at home?”
“Everything’s great, honey. Where have you been? I’ve been worried sick.” Coleen replied.
“I have to stop by the station first. Then I’ll head home for a shower. I’ll pick you and Molly up after work and we can go out for dinner,” Chad shared his plans.
Coleen gave him a knowing smile. “So, the real purpose is to take Molly out for dinner, isn’t it? And your old mom just happens to be an afterthought?”
Chad chuckled. “Well, you have Dad to pick you up and you have him to join you for dinner. Molly is all alone and pitiful. She only has her brother Chad. I’ll keep her company tonight.”
Coleen mockingly replied, “What pitiful? She has a caring brother like you!”
She glanced at the calendar. “You know, today is Molly’s last day at work. She’s going out for dinner with her colleagues. I’ll text you the address. You can pick her up there.”
Time flew, and summer vacation was almost over. Chad had made a lot of promises to his sister, but circumstances didn’t allow him to fulfill any of them.
“Sure,” Chad agreed with a laugh. “And Mom, don’t tell Molly that I’m back. I want to surprise her.”
Coleen laughed. “Alright, continue spoiling her. She’ll become too dependent on you someday.”
After hanging up, Chad sped off to the station.
“Officer Chad, you’re finally back.”
Chad looked at his subordinate curiously. “What happened? Any big cases?”
The officer replied seriously, “No big cases, but there’s one with your sister.”
Chad’s smile faded. “Take me to my office. We’ll talk there.”
After work, Molly was in high spirits. She clicked a selfie to mark the end of her part-time job. Her luxurious life as a rich heiress was set to resume.
She and her colleagues went to a pre-booked restaurant for dinner. After two months of working together, they had become good friends. “Molly, we’ll miss you so much,” one of her colleagues said.
Molly laughed, “I’ll miss you guys too, but I have to go back to my luxurious life.”
Everyone laughed. Molly was far from being arrogant. She was always down-to-earth and straightforward.
“Molly, we don’t know when we’ll meet again.”
Molly replied, “You can see me tomorrow if you want.”
Everyone laughed again. “Molly, you’re the boss’ daughter. You can just come and go as you please.”
