At night, Andre walked through the door after a long day at work, greeted by his adorable and lively son. Henry’s face lit up, his little mouth opening wide to reveal a row of milky white teeth as he saw his dad.
Mia had swung by the office in the afternoon, and since she knew Andre had an evening engagement, she decided to head home early with their son.
The moment Andre reached out, Henry kicked and waved his tiny arms excitedly, practically leaping from his mom’s arms into his dad’s embrace.
Holding his soft bundle of joy, Andre felt his stress melt away. As he walked into the living room, he noticed his nephew wasn't around.
“Leo and Anya aren’t back yet?” he asked, looking around.
Hansen grumbled, “Who knows where they’ve run off to, and they even took our little Anya with them.”
Hansen then tried to coax his grandson over, but Henry wasn’t having it. He buried his face in his dad's neck, ignoring his grandpa, who eventually gave his little bottom a playful smack.
Andre chuckled, “They probably went out for dinner. Leo took over as Chief Secretary today.”
Naomi gasped, “He really did? Andre, is Leo up for it? I hope it’s not too much if he’s not ready.”
Andre, always more generous with praise when Leo wasn’t around, said, “Leo’s more capable than he appears. Once I pass on all my contacts and networks to him, I can step back and support him from behind the scenes.”
This way, Andre could spend more time with his wife and son.
Andre reflected on how things had changed. There was a time when he didn’t even want to come home, spending all his time at the office or traveling for business. Now, with a wife and son, he felt lonely if he spent even one night away from home. He started turning down dinners just to be with his family.
Henry’s little mouth was always moving, babbling, chewing on his hands, nibbling on his parents' faces, and kicking his chubby legs while being held by his dad.
A bit later, Mia came out with Henry’s special bowl of freshly made meat puree. “Honey, hold him while I feed him.”
As Mia fed Henry, she asked, “I heard you earlier, Leo agreed to the plan you laid out for him. Why the sudden change?”
Andre grabbed a napkin, placing it under Henry’s chin, watching his son’s mouth open wide for the food. “He probably thought it through.”
Mia fed another spoonful to Henry, who savored it slowly with his little tongue.
Mia didn’t seem as thrilled as Andre had expected, continuing to feed their son absentmindedly.
Sensing something was off, Andre turned to look at his wife, “What’s wrong?”
“Hmm? Oh, nothing.” Mia fed another spoonful to Henry, “You little rascal, you won’t eat your cereal, you turn your nose up at fruit puree, but meat puree, now that you’ll open wide for.”
“Ah ah~”
North Hill in Havenbrook was the place to be.
During the day, visitors flocked to the hilltop to overlook bustling Havenbrook. By evening, it was a popular spot for enjoying the view.
That night, Leo took Anya to the peak. They found themselves alone, with only the dim streetlights for company.
During the drive, Leo was mostly silent, offering short replies only when Anya asked something.
After parking and leaving the car lights on, Leo finally broke the silence, looking at the bold girl beside him, “You’re really brave.”
“Huh?” Anya was confused, not understanding what he meant.
Leo asked, “A young girl comes to a high hill late at night, with no one around. Aren’t you afraid of danger?”
