Chapter 276
Chapter 276
The meeting lasted the whole morning. After Kevan left the meeting room, his assistant handed him his phone. As Keren glanced at the screen, he saw the chat history between his assistant and the Human Resource Department manager of Regal Dynasty Hotel
He had requested the other party to transfer Larissa back to Covenford as per Kevan’s instruction, but the request was denied. The other party replied, “Old Mr. Rogers ordered the transfer. If Mr. Rogers has any objection to this, he should discuss it with Old Mc Roggen directly. We can’t do anything about it.”
Kevan narrowed his eyes. He had thought this was Edmund’s arrangement and that Bernard and his family were involved. He hadn’t expected his grandfather’s involvement in this. If that was indeed the case, the situation had become even more complicated.
“Got it,” Kevan said. Then, he returned to his office and called his grandfather.
Roland answered the call and asked, “You’re calling me because of Lari?”
His grandpa was obviously prepared, so Kevan didn’t beat around the bush. “Why?”
“Your family is in Bartham, and so is your business. Since Lari is your wife, it’s only natural for her to be by your side in Barthem. I’m simply making arrangements ahead of time. Of course, I have my own reasons for doing so. You know that among your peers, I value you the most. Lari is different from your sister-in-law and brother-in-law. I like her very much. I’m too old to travel now. If you all stay in Barther, you can visit me often.”
Roland’s heartfelt words plunged Kevan into deep contemplation. He began to reflect on himself, realizing that he had been neglecting his family for the past few years in his pursuit of stabilizing the Rogers family business and his own ventures.
“But Lari doesn’t like it here,” Kevan expressed, torn between honoring his grandfather’s wishes and acknowledging Larissa’s feelings.
“She had some unpleasant experiences in Bartham when she was a child.”
Roland was silent for a long time before asking, “Why don’t you ask Lari if she could stay in Bartham for a few years for me? I won’t live long. When I’m gone, you guys can go whenever you want to. Is that okay?”
Everyone was well aware of Roland’s deteriorating health, and the entire family was bracing themselves for the inevitable. Only Kevan had been deceiving both his grandfather and himself, refusing to acknowledge the gravity of the situation. “You still have a long time to gor
Roland laughed. “Enough, don’t try to fool me. Go and discuss it with Lari. I can’t die without having some peace of mind. It depends on
you now.”
“Grandpa.” Kevan suddenly became serious as he continued, “You should know that if Lari stays in Bartham, Benard and his family will try
to harm her.”
“I know that.” Roland might be old, but he wasn’t sen ile. He remained aware of everything happening in the company. While it was Edmund’s idea to transfer Larissa from Covenford, he had different plans. Despite their divergent purposes, Roland intended to use Edmund’s plan to beat him, so he informed the Human Resource Department beforehand.
“Don’t worry about Bernard and his family. I’ll send someone to protect Lari. Nothing will happen to her.” Since Roland made his promise,
Kevan knew he didn’t have to worry. Still, it was a challenge to persuade Larissa.
At night, Kevan was home before Larissa. It was a rare sight, so Larissa was surprised to see the lights switched on.
“You’re not busy today?” she asked Kevan.
Kevan patted the seat beside him and said, “Come here.”
Confused, Larissa walked over.
