At this moment, Larissa was trying to coexist with that new kitten. Kevan's reaction last night had scared her while also making her reflect upon herself. Had she been too cold to this kitten?
She still had a lot of snacks that were meant for Muffin, so she ripped one bag open and brought the kitten into her lap, feeding it carefully. Its cold seemed to have gotten better. Last night, it was still ill and refused to eat anything, but now it was nibbling a tiny cookie, finishing it in a couple of bites or so.
After it was finished eating, it looked up at Larissa, eyes filled with want. Amused, Larissa booped its nose, which led the kitten to rub itself against her with affection. The soft meows of the kitten melted Larissa's heart entirely, and she gently rubbed its head, apologizing softly to it, "I'm sorry, little one." for her previous neglect.
…
Kevan and Dylan returned in the evening.
Larissa was in the midst of preparing dinner when she heard the noise, so she went to the living room and saw that Dylan was holding a kitten in his arms.
The "Muffin" at home was still around, and it was currently going round and round Kevan's legs with its tail straight up.
"This kitten is?" Larissa suddenly recalled the matter of Ruby leaving her kitten to be pet sat in the pet shop yesterday. Could it be … that she got tired of Muffin in just two days and got Kevan to bring her back?
"Your Muffin from before," Dylan replied, which caused a radiant smile to appear on Larissa's face at once. She quickly wheeled herself to Dylan and took Muffin from him, kissing her face over and over. Kevan saw her actions from the corner of his eye, and his heart was rife with jealousy. Bending down, he picked up the other kitten and stroked it as if he was comforting it.
He did not expect Larissa to come to him so quickly with Muffin raised up, letting both kittens face each other. "Cookie!" This was Larissa's name for the kitten that Kevan bought. "Your sister's home~"
Her eyes had crinkled up into a smile, and one could almost see the stars in them. Kevan was mesmerized by what he saw, and he stared at her without moving for a long while. Off to one side, Dylan was watching him, and he shook his head helplessly.
