Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo novel Chapter 393

Larissa failed to escape because Wendy held her still and quickly pulled her into a chair opposite Barbara. A small, round table separated them, adorned only by a candelabra bearing a lit candle and a thick stack of tarot cards. "This is my best friend, Larissa." Wendy made the introductions.

"Nice to meet you, Larissa," said Barbara faintly.

Every time she spoke, a chill would go through Larissa. "Hi," said Larissa while forcing a smile.

Barbara picked up the tarot cards. In the dim candlelight, Larissa saw that Barbara's hands were completely tattooed in weird pictures or, to be more accurate, symbols.

"What would you like to ask?" asked Barbara. Wendy answered in Larissa's stead, "She came here from Caldor recently, wanting to forget the past and start a new life. Can you help predict if her new life will go smoothly?"

"Okay." Barbara nodded and spread the tarot cards across the table, gesturing for Larissa to pick out five cards.

Larissa didn't believe in the divine at all. Her sole focus was on complying as quickly as possible in order to make her exit. She picked out five cards randomly.

Everything she said resonated with Larissa's current situation, except the "you never lost your trust and passion in love" part. Because of that part, Larissa felt that everything else she had predicted was just a wild guess. Barbara moved on to the third card. "The hanged man in reverse. Your previous relationship ended because you ran away. You think you're making a sacrifice for the other person's sake, but in reality, that type of sacrifice is meaningless. Combining this card and the wheel of fortune, I think you're still in love with that man."

Larissa's heart gave a wild thump, and she denied it instinctively. "I'm not."

Barbara gave an unfathomable smile and said, "My dear Larissa, please face what your heart truly feels. My tarot cards don't lie." She turned the fourth card over, which was an upright star card. Barbara covered her mouth again, but her expression was one of surprise.
