Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo novel Chapter 396

Larissa smiled in her sleep. After deciding to keep the child, she would have to deal with the difficulties that came with pregnancy. Lucky for her, the child was well-behaved and didn't bring her much trouble. Aside from experiencing an increased appetite and constant drowsiness, Larissa didn't feel much different than usual. It was just that it became more cumbersome for her to move about as her belly grew bigger with each passing day.

In the middle of July, Larissa received an email from a lecturer at Wendy's university informing her that she had been accepted into a master's course. At the end of August, she officially went to university. When the lecturer saw her pregnant belly, he didn't display any signs of shock or surprise; instead, he treated it like something he saw every day. He even advised her to take care of her health and not to overexert herself.

Life as a postgraduate student was undoubtedly busy, but it wasn't too hectic. Of course, this was because the lecturers helped her out a little on purpose. Most of her days were occupied with attending classes and discussing her research with her tutor and fellow group mates. She would also hang out in the library, where she would spend time reading journals or working on her thesis.

It was almost New Year's again in the blink of an eye. The baby was expected to arrive at the end of January. Wendy checked the horoscope and found that the baby would probably be a Capricorn. "If only the due date was a little later, then your baby would be an Aquarius!" Wendy expressed, with a tinge of disappointment.

"What's so special about being an Aquarius?" Larissa responded, glaring at Wendy.

"Aquarius babies are absolutely adorable!" Wendy huffed and pouted, then said meekly, "But … Capricorn babies are pretty cute too. I think I'd better prepare two gold necklaces for the baby anyway!"

Wendy wanted to stay with her in the delivery ward, but Larissa refused. She suffered alone inside for a few hours and finally gave birth to a chubby baby boy of about 15 pounds amidst the doctors' and nurses' words of encouragement. The baby's cries pierced through the exhaustion that had nearly lulled Larissa into sleep, compelling her to forcefully open her weary eyes.

As Larissa gazed upon her baby's wrinkled face, tears streamed down her face. "How ugly," she thought. However, a profound realization followed—that the baby was her child. She had carried this child within her for nine arduous months and given birth to it after so much pain. For a fleeting moment, she actually didn't want to part ways with him.
