Chapter 874
It was already past 11:00 pm when Kevan came back home.
As expected, the living room was dark.
Larissa and Wendy were probably sleeping.
He moved as quietly as possible to avoid waking Larissa. He decided to sleep in one of the guest rooms.
Alas, as he walked past the study, a light switched on behind him.
“Where are you going? Larissa came out from the study, still dressed in her loungewear. Her shoulder–length hair was tied up into a ponytail which swayed as she moved.
She was staring at Kevan, puzzled.
Kevan backtracked when he heard her voice. “I thought you had gone to sleep. I was going to sleep in the guest room.”
“I’m still doing some work. Go and wash up in the bedroom. I will turn off the computer and come along later.” Larissa said in a tired voice. rubbing her eyes. She was exhausted from staring at documents all night.
Kevan looked past her shoulders and his gaze landed on the large desk in the study.
Before he left the desk was empty. Now, it was stacked with documents. Her computer was on displaying rows of numbers from the reports.
“Alright.” Kevan smiled and turned to leave. Suddenly, Larissa grabbed his hand.
“Why are your hands so cold?” She gasped at the coldness of Kevan’s hands.
Larissa knew that Kevan had a lower body temperature than normal. His hands always felt cold throughout the year. However, his hands were freezing to the touch.
It was far from normal. It felt as if he had immersed his hands in ice water or exposed his bare hands to cold winds.
Kevan withdrew his hand from her warm grasp.
“It’s cold outside. That’s why my hands are freezing. It will be okay once I take a shower,” he replied.
Larissa frowned, doubting his explanation.
She had left the house today. It was not that cold,
“What’s wrong? Is there something else?” Kevan asked.
Larissa remembered what she was going to ask. “Did you smoke?”
The smell of cigarettes on him wasn’t that strong, but her sense of smell was as keen as a dog. If she got close enough, she could smell it
“Are things not going well?” Larissa asked.
Kevan rarely smoked. From what she could remember, he had only smoked a handful of times.
Her first thought was that something was bothering him.
Currently, the only thing that could bother him to such an extent was Edmund.
“No. It’s just that some problems have cropped up back in Calder.” Kevan denied it and came up with an excuse so that she would believe
him
Larissa was silent for a few seconds. An expression of guilt appeared on her face
“I’m sorry. It’s because of me that you had to be in two places at once,” she said.
Kevan patted her head and comforted her. “What are you saying? This happened because of me. Both of you are involved in this because of me as well. If anyone should apologize, I should apologize to you and Wendy.”
