Chapter 922
Soon, the day of the trial arrived.
Thanks to Lewis’ influence, not a single respectable lawyer in Weston la dared to take on the task of defending Edmund, no matter how much he was willing to pay.
Larissa had rehea rsed her testimony at home in advance.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she took the witness stand.
She sobbed uncontrollably as she recounted the scary experiences after being kidnapped.
Her emotional testimony moved the jury deeply.
She cried so many times during her testimony that she could barely hold hersell together.
The key witnesses, including Vick, corroborated her account.
The text messages and contracts exchanged between Vick and Edmund were presented as evidence.
Such proof could potentially send Edmund to jail.
Everything was proceeding smoothly, except for a minor hiccup during Wendy’s appearance.
Kevan was concerned about her m ental state.
So, he had coordinated with the prosecutor to place her as the last witness.
Edmund was completely taken by surprise when he saw Wendy in the courtroom.
She had chosen a plain appearance for the day.
She was dressed in all black.
She had no makeup at all.
Her face appeared somewhat pale-a deliberate act to gain sympathy from the jury.
But from Edmund’s perspective, it seemed like she was sympathizing with him.
He thought she was bearing a tremendous burden on his behalf.
After enduring several rounds of accusations, Edmund had almost resigned himself to losing the case.
He expected to spend the next few years behind bars in a foreign country.
However, Wendy’s unexpected appearance offered a glimmer of hope into his bleak outlook.
He looked at her with hope, his eyes seemingly fixated on her..
She raised her head.
She met his gaze confidently.
She even offered him a faint smile.
She provided him with a reassuring expression.
So, the tension that had tightly held his body immediately dissipated.
Wendy recounted the day’s events truthfully, without any embellishments.
“The defendant informed me that he had taken my friend’s son.
“He requested that I accompany him.
“We went to a coffee shop near the mall, but my friend’s son wasn’t present
“I consumed it and I lost consciousness.
“I have no recollection of the events that followed.
“When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a room at the Maple Hotel”
However, these testimonies clearly favored the prosecution. Edmund’s expression immediately shifted.
“What the hell are you talking about? It was Kevan and Larissa who framed me! I’m innocer !! Wendy, you need to tell these folks! You can’t let them tarnish my name he yelled loudly in Caldorian.
The sudden twist in the proceedings sent shockwaves through the courtroom.
Conversations erupted; the once solemn legal setting turned into a chaotic market.
The judge swiftly took control.
While summoning bailiffs to restrain Edmund, the judge offered a stem waming to Werdy. “Don’t succumb to his threats.”
She nodded solemnly.
She then addressed Edmund in Aldovian. “I’m sorry, but I’ve taken an oath. I cannot lie in this court.”
Edmund was shaken.
Until this very day, he had been confidently awaiting Wendy to seek vengeance on his behall.
However, judging by her current demeanor, it seemed that Larissa and Kevan had successfully persuaded her otherwise.
“You’ve deceived me! What a liar! Just you wait! I’ll make sure none of you have it easy!” He shot up from his chair. His face was boiling red with rage as he angrily pointed at her.
Due to his highly charged emotions, the judge expedited the trial proceedings to prevent any further disruptions.
The jury wasted no time in delivering their verdict-Edmund was found guilty of kidnapping.
Given his complete lack of remorse, he was sentenced to ten years in prison.
As he was escorted away by the bailiffs, he turned toward his attomey and shouted, “I don’t accept this! I’m going to appeal! Help me file an appeal! I have money! I’ll pay you! Just get me cut of here!”
The attomey wiped away imaginary sweat from his forehead, collected the belongings, and ignored Edmund’s pleas
