"Mrs. Cheng, what are you going to do?" A soldier was helping Fiona in the kitchen. As he watched her slice the pork, green pepper and cucumber skillfully, he asked, "Are you going to cook fish-flavored pork?"
Fiona nodded in reply without lifting her gaze. Her eyes were trained on the knife. She continued to chop the ingredients deftly with elegant movements.
"But the carrots are missing. Didn't you find them? I'll get them for you." The soldier turned his back and was about to ran to the storage room.
"Don't bother!" Fiona momentarily stopped with the cooking preparations. She called him back and explained, "Spencer doesn't like eating carrots, so I won't use them. Nonetheless, thank you for trying to help!"
Fiona smiled brightly. The soldier scratched his head shyly and blushed. "Ah, I see. You knows Mr. Cheng very well. He is so lucky to have you!"
Surprised, Fiona's lips curled up to show her happiness. It was the first time that Fiona had been so serious about cooking. She cut the vegetables, stirred the pot and arranged the dishes meticulously without missing a beat.
She was able to make three dishes and one soup. She then went to the dormitory with the soldier and set the dishes on the table. For a while, Fiona silently sat at the table while looking at the dishes she had cooked especially for him. She rested her hands on her cheeks, with a faint expectation in her heart.
Fiona thought that her actions today were a bit strange, but she readily accepted the emotions she felt towards him. Perhaps, she already had feelings for him. Otherwise, why would she tiptoe to kiss him in the fitting room? She only needed a chance to open her heart to him.
The red glow in the sky gradually dissipated until everything turned black.
Fiona waited in the dormitory for a long time. From time to time, she walked to the balcony, looked at the clock on the wall, and paced back and forth in the hallway. It was eight o'clock in the evening, but Spencer still hadn't come back.
Worry began to stir in Fiona's heart. Finally, she decided to open the door and walk out. She proceeded to ask the people passing along the road if they had seen Spencer.
"Excuse me. Have you seen Spencer?" Fiona asked.
"No, I haven't."
"Have you met Spencer?"
"No."
"Have you seen Spencer?" Fiona didn't know how many people she had asked.
"Mr. Cheng was in the combat ring." Suddenly, a subordinate who was walking towards her opened his mouth. Fiona's eyes lit up. She walked to him and confirmed, "Did he really go to the combat ring?"
"Yes, he went there."
"Where is the combat ring?" Fiona's heart began to beat faster in excitement. Right there and then, she vowed to look for Spencer at the combat ring.
"Just walk along this road and turn left. You will see the combat ring if you continue by that path."
"Thank you!" After expressing her thanks, she hurried to the direction provided by the subordinate. 'Why is he in the combat ring now? Is there a competition?' Fiona mused.
Meanwhile, a loud bang was heard from Celine's ward. She wore a distraught expression as she sat on the bed. Biting her lip, she lifted her arm to grab a cup; then suddenly, she threw it to the floor. The glass was broken into pieces. Her brows were knitted tightly and her face was red with anger. However, her angry expression could do nothing to cover her shaking hands and slightly trembling lips.
Her menstrual period had already passed, but there was still no sign of her aunt Flo. It had been delayed for more than ten days. 'Am I pregnant?'
Celine grasped the corner of the quilt tightly and gritted her teeth. She shook her head vigorously to escape the thought that suddenly came to her. Except for that night when she was drugged in T Country, she hadn't had sex for a long time. If she was really pregnant... She dared not think about it!
With shaking hands,
Celine struggled to dial Charles' number.
"Hello..."
"You're a bastard, Charles!" Celine let out her anger without reserve. "You're a scum! Bastard!"
"Celine, what's wrong with you?" Charles asked in an unaffected voice. He let out an audible sigh before saying in a cold tone, "Your strategy won't work on me. If you want a fight, I don't have time to argue with you."
"I'm pregnant!" Celine roared through gritted teeth. Her voice was low and filled with determination.
"Really?" Charles replied with a hint of curiosity. "Congratulations! You are going to be a mother!"
At his apparent sarcasm, Celine felt anger. "You..." She clenched her fist tightly that she drew blood with her fingers digging into her palm. "You did it on purpose, didn't you? Tell me who were with me that night!"
"Sorry, I don't know," Charles said. "But..."
His voice trailed off. Out of curiosity, Celine asked, "But what?"
"But if you want to find a man to be the baby's father, I think Spencer might be a good choice," Charles suggested.
"What do you mean?" Celine frowned, but a sly light flashed in her eyes.
Charles continued, "What I mean is that if you find a chance to leave the base, I'll ask someone to give you the drug. After that, you can find an opportunity to sleep with Spencer. By then, it will be very clear who the baby's father is."
It took Celine a few seconds to reply, "I'm going out tonight."
"Why are you in such a hurry?" There was a touch of mockery in Charles's words.
Right then, Celine had a determined look on her face. "I am going to the pharmacy to see if I am really pregnant."
"So you are not really sure that you're pregnant!" Charles could not hide the disappointment in his voice. "Then don't screw it up, it will only worsen the situation."
"Don't worry. I'm not that stupid!" Gritting her teeth, Celine squinted and said angrily, "I'm hanging up. I'll contact you when I get out of the base."
"Wait!" Charles suddenly raised his voice to stop her.
"What's wrong?" she asked quizzically.
"Is there nothing unusual in the base today?" Charles hesitated for a moment before he asked, "How is Fiona?"
"I see!" Celine snorted loudly, "So you still have feelings for her! You are really a faithful man! Humph! Fiona is fine! Well, do you want me to go out together with her?"
