Eloise's words were dripping with sarcasm.
Harvey was in pain. He lowered his head, and it took him a while to mutter her name, "Eloise..."
Eloise didn't respond. She silently tore the document into shreds. When she looked up at him again, her eyes were as if looking at a stranger. "Harvey, I hope you can keep your promises!"
His gaze was deep. He made a phone call, putting a stop to all the pressure on Sleak Tech.
Everything was over.
Harvey watched her rejecting figure, wanting to touch her, but Eloise's body froze instantly. He swallowed the pain and gave a small smile. "I won't touch you! Eloise, can you make me something to eat?"
Eloise didn't respond. Harvey couldn't help but hug her from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder, whispering, "Cook for me, please. I haven't eaten a decent meal in ages. Without you, I can't sleep at night either." He was always missing her.
Eloise pushed him away. Standing in the shadows by the window, she softly said, "Harvey, when I wanted to be in a serious relationship, you didn't give me a chance. Now, I don't want it anymore! And... I can avoid Landon, but I can't be with you anymore. If you force me, I will do anything!"
Slowly turning her head, she whispered, "Harvey, everyone has their privacy. I guess someone famous like you must value it a lot. After all, any little thing could ruin your perfect image, right?"
Harvey wasn't surprised. He had been with Eloise for a long time, so it was normal for her to know some things. Of course, it wouldn't matter if those things got out. But seeing her so angry now, he was willing to back off a little.
"I'll go now. Remember to get something to eat!" His tone was gentle, like he was back to being caring and loving as if the previous threats never happened.
As he left, Harvey gently stroked her back. Eloise froze, rejecting his touch.
He paused, whispering, "Eloise, I know you hate me, but I don't regret it!"
Eloise chuckled coldly. Of course, he didn't regret it because he didn't lose anything.
...
The next day, Eloise went to Encore Soundworks and started working. Harvey called a few times, but she didn't pick up. He often sent flowers and would have meals delivered from fancy restaurants, but Eloise never accepted anything.
A week later, Veronica called.
"Eloise, Landon is going on a business trip, his flight is at two in the afternoon! I heard from Riley that he won't be back for at least a year!"
Eloise held her phone, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. She softly acknowledged.
Veronica quietly asked, "Do you... want to come and see him off?"
Eloise lifted her head slightly, taking a moment before replying, "No, give him my regards. No, forget it."
Veronica sighed softly.
After hanging up, Eloise stood there, looking at the blue sky and white clouds.
Landon was leaving.
She remembered that on the darkest night, it was Landon who walked out of the darkness and gave her warmth. She remembered him saying, "Eloise, let's give it a try!" when she was feeling lost.
She hoped Landon had a carefree for the year to come.
...
Close to noon, her secretary came in and said, "Ms. Laurent, the driver you wanted to interview is here, do you want to meet him now?"
Eloise calmly said, "Let him in."
The receptionist left the room blushing, which made Eloise feel a bit puzzled. Why did she suddenly blush?
In a while, she understood. The office door opened, and the driver walked in. The first thing that caught her eye was a pair of long legs, and, looking up, a very handsome young face.
Eloise blurted out, "You may have the wrong place. We're looking for a driver."
The man threw a document onto the desk. He said, "I'm here to apply for the driver position!"
Eloise looked down at the document.
Dwight Arellano, 23, from Rossland, 185 cm tall, measurements...
Eloise coughed lightly and said, "Mr. Arellano, for some reasons, we might not be able to hire you."
Dwight sat on her desk and said, "I'm a professional race car driver. You should feel honored that I'm willing to drive for your small company."
Eloise frowned. She calmly said, "The monthly salary is $800, not including accommodation. If you're willing, you can stay."
She thought he would definitely not accept. To her surprise, the man laughed. He leaned closer to her. "My bank card has been confiscated. $800 without housing, are you trying to make me live on the streets? Look at this handsome face, isn't that unsafe?"
Eloise was dealing with other matters, not paying him much attention. She casually said, "If you sell your looks, you could easily make $8000 a month."
The man jumped up immediately. "I won't sell myself!"
Eloise made a phone call, asking her secretary to see the gentleman out. Her company really couldn't accommodate him. If he stayed, all the women at Encore Soundworks would be unable to work. The secretary looked disappointed, her face red.
The man seemed angry. "I'm willing to drive for you, you should feel lucky."
Just then, Michelle came in with a lunch box. She brought Eloise some lunch, and as soon as she entered, she saw a tall young man standing in the office. He was really handsome. Michelle's eyes lit up.
