Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 190

A champagne-colored BMW slowly rolled into the neighborhood where Michelle lived. Michelle had dinner ready, and her face lit up in joy when she saw them coming back. "I'll whip up another dish real quick," she said.

Michelle glanced at Dwight, who looked all chipper and full of energy. In front of Michelle, he was always on his best behavior, even helping out with chores. But Michelle just laughed and told him to go freshen up first.

He immediately grabbed his luggage and headed for the small room, his ease making Eloise suspicious that he might be Michelle's family.

By the time Michelle finished cooking, Dwight emerged from the bathroom, all fresh and clean. His long legs looked good in anything he wore. He sat next to Michelle and served her food, acting the part of a dutiful son.

Even though Eloise was somewhat displeased with him, she had to admit that Dwight was really good at cheering Michelle up, and it made her happy just watching them.

While they were eating, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," Dwight offered.

Watching his tall figure, Michelle whispered, "Such a good kid, so warm and polite." Eloise just smiled.

On the other side, Dwight opened the door to a middle-aged man who appeared well-mannered and an older woman. "Who are you looking for?"

Griffin, along with his mother and wife, had come to visit and were taken aback by the person who opened the door. Was this the wrong place?

He politely asked, "Is Eloise at home?"

Eloise cringed at the sound of his voice, but Michelle comforted her, "Anyone who comes here is our guest. Your father always said that. We can't lose our manners."

Eloise managed a weak smile.

Michelle welcomed the Lynch family in, and before she could even offer them anything, Jane was already on the verge of tears. "My granddaughter lives in a house like this! Oh, Griffin, what kind of father are you?"

Griffin remained silent, looking displeased.

Eloise coolly responded, “I'm doing just fine, Mr. Lynch. No need for you to feel guilty."

Michelle poured them some water.

Jane tried to reach for Eloise's hand, but she pulled away. Jane looked hurt. "Why won't you come back, dear? Even if Griffin can't give you anything else, he can give you a huge inheritance. You'd live a thousand times better with us. If you're willing to come back, your father's fortune will be left to you and Joan. We won't play favorites."

Eloise felt numb. These people just wanted their biological granddaughter, and didn’t care about her pain facing Joan. They didn't truly want to accept her; they just wanted her to reconcile with Joan.

She remained silent.

Dwight glanced at her, then turned to Jane and said, "All this over some money, really?"

Griffin's wife was not pleased. She looked at Dwight, assuming he was just an employee, and scoffed, "That's more money than you'll ever see in your lifetime."

Dwight put down his toothpick. He smirked, "I've got a few billion bucks on me right now. Do you want some?"

Griffin's wife was so angry she was shaking. "Griffin, look at the riffraff Eloise keeps in her company. I've told you, her upbringing is too complicated for her to fit in with the Lynch family. Joan is much simpler in comparison!"

Griffin hesitated, was Eloise really unfit to return to the Lynch family?

Eloise just scoffed. "Mr. Lynch, I can't drive because of a foot injury. Is it a crime to request a driver? Also, no matter how complicated or simple I am, I'm not good enough for the Lynch family. Please leave!"

Dwight laughed and stood by her side. "Yeah, yeah, stop interrupting our family meal!"

Eloise shot him a glance, they were not family! But she had to admit he was useful. Keeping him around to look after Michelle and provide some protection from the Lynch family wasn't a bad idea.

With that thought, Eloise found him more bearable.

Griffin looked pale. Eloise's foot injury meant she couldn't drive. Did that also mean she couldn't play piano anymore? He stepped forward earnestly. "Eloise, come with me overseas. I'll find the best doctor for you. You have my best genes, once your foot heals, you're bound to be successful."

Eloise just gave a cold smile.

Dwight scoffed, "So you just want an heir!"

Just as Griffin was about to explain, Dwight started shooing them away. "Get out of here. We didn't cook for you. Seriously, the three of you came over without any warning. Are you out of food and came over for a meal?"

The Lynch family was so angry that their faces were twisted.

Outside, Diana gritted her teeth. "Where did this punk come from?"

But Griffin was lost in thought. He remembered the look Eloise had given him earlier. It was cold and distant, without a hint of warmth.

Diana noticed his mood and gently touched his arm. "We still have Joan, Griffin. Joan is our real child. It's normal for Eloise to be distant since we didn't raise her."

Thinking of Joan, Griffin felt a soft spot in his heart. His only wish now was for Joan to have a good life after her divorce. If that could happen, their family would be complete.
