Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 71

Griffin chuckled, "Yeah, it's been a few years alright! Harvey, I heard your career's been taking off."

Harvey responded modestly.

They chatted for a bit, then Orlena came upstairs from down below. She was fond of Griffin, and just like when she was a kid, she hooked on to Griffin's arm and sweetly said, "Griffin, my dad's asking for you."

Griffin patted Orlena's hand affectionately.

Orlena flashed a brilliant smile, accompanied him downstairs, and asked, "Isn't Joan Lynch coming back this time?"

Griffin was taken aback.

He instinctively looked back at Harvey.

That man was leaning against the French windows, his dark clothes blending in with the night outside. He was frowning, chin slightly raised, a cigarette held between his slender fingers, slowly puffing away...

Griffin thought to himself, Harvey really is a cut above the rest.

He looked downcast and told Orlena softly, "Yeah, she's not coming back for now."

He couldn't make out what Orlena said next...

On the balcony, Harvey slowly finished his cigarette. After being urged by his family downstairs, he slowly descended the staircase.

Tonight, the Horigan family had important guests.

The house was bustling with busy servants.

Parker prepared a lavish feast to welcome his old friend Griffin. He stood up, embraced Griffin, and said warmly, "Griffin, we haven't seen each other in years, but you're still as charming as ever! I'm getting old, clearly."

Orlena playfully said, "Dad, are you trying to get another wife?"

Everyone at the table laughed at this.

Pauline Horigan lovingly scolded, "You cheeky girl, always talking nonsense!."

Orlena stuck out her tongue playfully, "Griffin will protect me."

Pauline laughed softly, gently told Griffin, "Orlena's always been attached to you since she was little."

Griffin looked at Orlena, his heart aching.

He and his wife had a daughter, but she was adopted, not their biological child. If he hadn't been so proud back then, causing his then-girlfriend to leave disappointed, would he, Griffin, have had a biological child, as lively and adorable as Orlena?
