Harvey finished talking and the room fell dead silent.
Attorney surely knew about Max and Ravenna's thing, and it was pretty obvious now that he was throwing his weight around!
Man, he sure was a cold-blooded shark of the legal world!
Under everyone's gaze, Max got up.
Even though he was the future son-in-law of the Horigan family, just a single word from Harvey could screw over Velona Corporation big time. So, he had to play by Harvey's rules.
Max wasn't just heartless, and he also knew when to back down.
He picked up his glass and downed it in one.
Ravenna didn't even see it coming.
Max ignored her. He stood next to Eloise, poured himself a drink, then another for Eloise, and raised his glass, “Harvey's driving, so here's to my future sister-in-law.”
Eloise didn't expect Max to pull a stunt like this. Had he lost his marbles?
Veronica couldn't bear it any longer and blurted out, “Max, if you want to drink, I can join you."
Max put a hand on her shoulder, keeping her seated.
“Ms. Veronica, I'm talking to Eloise here!”
The room fell silent again, and everyone knew Eloise had a thing for Max back in the day. Max was obviously making things awkward for her now. Nobody dared to say a word.
Eloise went rigid.
A soft chuckle. Harvey's hand lightly rested on the back of Eloise's chair, and his laugh was easy and graceful.
He gently asked her, “Can you drive?”
Eloise nodded, confused, and then he took her hand.
Harvey got up again and smiled at Max, “Eloise isn't feeling well. I'll drink for her.”
His words started a buzz around the room.
When Ravenna wanted to drink with him, he said he was driving and couldn't drink. Now he was drinking?
Talk about playing favourites!
Harvey pulled this off without batting an eye. He picked up Eloise's glass and elegantly downed the wine while Max gripped his own glass, his face turning ghostly pale.
