"Scarlett, Ray."
Alexander walked over with a glass of red wine in his hand. A waiter happened to be walking past him, and he took a glass of juice and a glass of red wine from the tray. After handing the glass of red wine to Raymond, he was just about to give Scarlett the juice when his eyes met Raymond's cold ones. His hand shuddered. "Ah, I’m a bit thirsty."
Scarlett lifted her brows and turned to glance at Raymond with a half smile." What should I drink?"
Raymond walked straight to the waiter and took a glass of juice. "Grape juice."
Scarlett smiled, "Thanks." "Ms. Reed."
At that moment, Yvonne walked over with a glass of red wine in her hand and said simperingly, "Did you and Mr. Shaw come in together?"
Scarlett knew that Yvonne would soon get her comeuppance, so she didn’t mind Yvonne acting smugly for a little while longer. "Do the Sheridans not allow their guests to bring friends?"
"I wouldn't say that. I'm just making conversation."
With that Yvonne's eyes rested on Raymond. "I've hardly seen you bring a date to a party like this before, Mr. Shaw."
The undertone in her words was very obvious. She was belittlingly calling
Scarlett his date.
Scarlett, however, was not annoyed. She flicked a glance at the pin on Yvonne's dress and asked meaningfully, "Ms.
Sheridan, you like children very much. Am I right?"
Yvonne's face changed. "I don't know what you are talking about."
Scarlett smiled and took her cue from Yvonne. "Don't get me wrong, Ms.
Sheridan. Your pin strikes me as adorable. I'm just making conversation."
Surely Scarlett was allowed to make conversation as Yvonne did?
Having a guilty conscience, Yvonne found herself unable to continue picking on Scarlett. "Enjoy yourself, Ms. Reed."
With that Yvonne walked away, wine glass in hand.
Looking at her receding back, Scarlett lowered her head, took a sip of grape juice and smiled.
