Although Raymond was not a descendant of the Shaw family, Jean knew such a big secret. Therefore, Jean could still threaten Raymond. However, if the secret was exposed, the consequences would not be as good as she thought.
Jean reckoned that Raymond had already learned the truth from Scarlett's mouth. And Jean believed that Raymond would soon have someone contact her. Jean would then have the leverage to negotiate for Thomas.
Scarlett had been Jean's daughter-in-law for three years anyway. She reacted immediately to what Raymond had told her. "If that's the case, she's probably still
waiting for you to throw yourself at her."
Raymond gave Scarlett a look. "Then let her wait."
Scarlett smiled. "Fine. Then let her wait."
She'd like to see how many days Thomas could wait.
Thomas really couldn't wait much longer. The victim was unwilling to come to an understanding with Thomas and insisted on pressing charges. And Thomas had committed a criminal offense and had not reached an understanding with the victim. Therefore, Thomas' attorney made it clear to him that he would not be able to get his sentence reduced, so his attorney could only try to fight it.
Although Thomas was released on bail, the case was due to go to trial in two months.
Jean was waiting for Raymond to come to her. However, Raymond didn’t make a move.
Another week had passed, and it was Scarlett's birthday. Alexis threw a little party for Scarlett like last year.
Only this time Scarlett's birthday party was different than last year or even earlier because Raymond and Alexander and the others came.
Cindy had prepared a gift for Scarlett early on. The gift was a little enamel doll that Cindy had made herself. Although the little doll was not very delicate but especially cute, it represented Cindy's love for Scarlett.
"Scarlett, happy birthday. May you be eighteen years old every year!"
"Thank you."
Scarlett took the gift. Then, Alexander and others in the distance came towards
Scarlett. "Happy birthday, Scarlett."
"Thanks."
