My nails dug so deep into my palms I felt warm blood dripping down. 

“I’ve done nothing wrong. Why the hell should I apologize?” 

“You’re the ones who should be groveling!” 

Disappointment washed over Lorian’s face. “Sylvia, when did you become like this? You’re completely out 

of control!” 

Before I could respond, Mr. Lancelot stepped forward to help him up. 

“Take Jocelyn to the hospital. I’ll deal with this here.” 

Lorian scooped Jocelyn up like she weighed nothing and carried her out. Mom trailed behind Mr. Lancelot, apologizing meekly. 

Six years of what I thought was love vanished in that single moment. 

I grabbed my packed suitcase and checked into a hotel. 

Before leaving, I ripped out the camera hidden in my teddy bear and mailed it to Lorian. 

According to my calculations, he’d receive it right on his wedding day. 

I thought my exit would finally end this sick charade. But that night, Lorian bombarded me with texts. 

“Jocelyn was just doing me a favor pretending for the wedding. You hurt her, but I only asked you to apologize so my dad wouldn’t get suspicious. Don’t read too much into it.” 

“Get some sleep. I’ve had a custom dress made for you to wear at the wedding. Be a good girl. I’m your 

brother, and that will never change.” 

But I knew this whole performance wasn’t for Mr. Lancelot. 

It was all for me. 

Only my complete disappearance would truly end it. 

For the next two days, I didn’t go home. 

Neither did he.

I never got the gift he promised.

On the morning of the wedding. I called him. 

He was busy directing Ewan and barely acknowledged me. 

“Is the video ready to roll? Start playing it the second she walks in. Make sure everyone can see it clearly.” 

“Are you absolutely sure about this? Once that video starts playing, there’s no taking it back.” 

“Just do what I said. I’ve waited six years for this day. And keep an eye on her mother. Don’t let her cause 

a scene.” 

After Ewan left, he finally remembered the phone call. 

“Sylvia? The wedding’s about to start. I’m coming to pick you up personally. Wait for me at home.” 

“Wanna know a secret? Usually it’s the bride who gets picked up on the wedding day. It’s almost like I’m marrying you too, isn’t it?”
