Chapter 6
The news drained all color from Lorian’s face.
He stared at the camera in Ewan’s hand, unable to process what he’d heard.
Grabbing Ewan’s collar, his voice cracked with panic.
“Why do you have this? Where’s Sylvia? WHERE IS SHE?”
“What do you mean ‘crashed at sea‘? SAY THAT AGAIN!”
Ewan, knowing the whole revenge scheme, sighed heavily.
“This package from Sylvia arrived two days ago. Saw your name on it at the entrance, thought it might be wedding–related, so I opened it.”
“Lorian, your sister is gone. Just this morning–I double–checked her flight info. The crash is all over
Twitter. It’s real.”

“You always said you wanted her life as revenge. Well… now she’s gone. Maybe
at the wedding…”
“Lorian, she was your sister. The sister you supposedly cared about for six years…”
Lorian swayed like he might pass out.

He whispered desperately: “No way. No fucking way. She can’t be gone. She’s just messing with me!”
“She’s just pissed I’m marrying someone else. She’s punishing me.”
“We talked on the phone THIS MORNING–she said she’d come to my wedding! She wouldn’t lie about that. She can’t be gone…”

Ewan looked at him with pity, placing the damaged camera in his trembling hands.
“Maybe before. But now she knows your plan. Did you seriously think she’d show up to her own public
execution?”
“Come here so you could broadcast videos of your nights together? Let her mother be completely destroyed? Quietly accept your revenge?”
“Lorian, I don’t know if Sylvia’s mom ever messed with your parents‘ marriage, but Sylvia had nothing to do with it. As an outsider, she never fit into the Lancelot family. As your stepsister, she got nothing but

cold shoulders.”
“If you ask me, the Lancelots owe her way more than she owes you.‘
“Your revenge was supposed to destroy Sylvia’s reputation and make her mother regret ever crossing you. Well, Sylvia’s dead now. Mission accomplished. Maybe leave the video alone?”
Ewan turned and walked out.
Lorian stood frozen, his mind in chaos. He had counted down the days to this wedding for six years.
From the moment Sylvia’s mother joined the Lancelot household, he’d obsessively planned his revenge.
Every time he looked at Sylvia’s mother, all he could see was his own mother’s suffering during the divorce.
The memory tormented him day and night, never letting him rest.
For revenge, he’d buried any genuine feelings.
Deliberately drawing close to Sylvia. Earning her trust. Sharing intimate moments.
But now that Sylvia was gone, he couldn’t bring himself to hit play on those videos he’d so carefully
edited.
Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice Jocelyn approaching until she wrapped herself around his arm.
“Lorian? What’s wrong? You look awful.”
“Is Sylvia throwing a tantrum and refusing to show? Typical.”
