"Is it really her?" Charles's eyebrows twitched. Anna had studied abroad for many years. There was no doubt about her skills. If she chose to focus on honing her skills, she would definitely surpass Jessie in a few years.
But he didn't expect her to frame Nancy.
"Yeah. You didn't expect that, did you?" Nancy asked.
'Til call Hiram right now and ask him to—" Charles started to offer. He could always count on Hiram to help solve his problems.
"It's fine. I can do it myself," Nancy interjected as she put her phone away.
"Sure you can, you stubborn little woman," Charles replied as he pulled on her cheeks playfully.
"Well, it's time this little woman grows up. If you want to..." Nancy began before turning around.
"Come here and tell me. When are you going to finish that drawing?" Charles was eager to get the answer.
"I don't have time. If you have time, you can finish it for me." A hint of slyness and mischief flashed through her eyes. Yes, that answer would come sooner or later. But for now, she could wait. She wasn't ready yet.
So now, her strategy was to stall.
"When did you learn to act like a spoiled child?" Charles smiled. He had known Nancy for a long time and acting like a spoiled brat was not in her character.
Her flirtatious nature, however, was interesting. It was the perfect mix of shyness and seduction that drove him mad.
The more she tried to act all sweet and shy, the more he wanted her. And when she began to flirt with him? It drove him crazy.
"Was I acting like a spoiled child? I could never! Not in front of you, anyways," Nancy denied as her face flushed in embarrassment.
"It's cute, though. I like it." Charles stared at her eyes as he said, "Let's give our children another brother or sister."
"No way!" she refused loudly.
Her complaints weren't for long though as Charles pulled her into his arms and effectively silenced her.
The next day, Nancy sent the recording to the police bright and early.
"Nancy, remember to call me if you need anything, okay?" Charles reminded her before she went out.
The human heart was unpredictable. How could an innocent person like Nancy deal with it?
"Sure. Take care of the kids. I'm going to work," Nancy said happily.
"Mommy, come home early tonight!" Nadia said.
"I will. I'll see you later!" And with that, she left their home.
Nancy thought that what she saw in the hospital would be enough for the police to take Anna away or at the very least, have her investigated.
But the police didn't appear.
Or maybe it was too early. Maybe they would get here in the afternoon.
But the police still did not come that afternoon.
Just then, Nancy saw Jessie.
As soon as Jessie saw her, she smiled, "Oh, Director Nancy. You look so beautiful today!"
Nancy didn't appreciate Jessie's attempt at flattery so she returned a cold smile at her. "Director Jessie, don't you have an operation today? I didn't expect to see you.
"Oh, I had one but I asked Dr. Anna to do it." Jessie waved off her concern as she made herself comfortable in Nancy's office. "Director Nancy, what do you think of Dr. Anna's character?"
Nancy never liked to talk about others behind their backs. In an effort to side step Jessie's question, she replied, "Director Jessie, Dr. Anna has been following you all the time. I don't know her that well to have any thoughts about her character."
"I think she's too young and impulsive. If I were you, Director Nancy, I wouldn't take her seriously," Jessie said.
