James looked at Yiulia without moving forward to comfort her. He wanted to hear a clear answer from her.
After a long silence, the tearful Yiulia wiped her eyes, slowly stood up, and asked, “How did you find out?”
James replied calmly, “I already gave you the answer. You’re a deity and not a very good actor. I knew as soon as you came to ask for help.”
Shocked, Yiulia asked, “Why did you come with me if you already saw through it? Why not listen to the Path Protectors and enter the Historial Palace?”
James smiled. “How would you explain yourself to the people who sent you if I didn’t fall for the trap?”
Yiulia’s eyes showed extreme complexity at his response. She closed her eyes, and tears rolled down her cheeks. She felt guilty, and her heart ached.
Though he was betrayed, he was still considerate of her safety. She could not wrap her mind around why he would do such a thing for a shameless traitor.
Fighting against her tears, Yiulia said, “Since you’ve already discovered it was a trap, I advise you to leave immediately. You won’t be able to seize the Wuia Palace. They’ve had everything planned out a long time ago.”
Looking at Yiulia, who was grief-stricken, James squinted and asked, “Who are they? Are you referring to Amos, Quintinus, and Xanthakos? Could it be the Waitara Path and Yehria?”
Yiulia stared blankly at James, as if in deep agony.
Suddenly, two flashes of light appeared behind Yiulia. The next moment, Amos and Xanthakos materialized.
Xanthakos folded his hands behind his back and looked at James with a triumphant expression. “Haha! We meet again, James. I can’t believe the last time we saw each other was in the Qadeer Palace so many entrapochs ago.”
James smiled faintly. “You proposed to become in-laws but disappeared without a word. I thought you died.”
Before she could finish, Xanthakos grabbed and tugged her long hair. Her face contorted in immense pain, but she could not fight back.
James squinted at the sight, his eyes slowly narrowing.
Xanthakos looked at him and taunted, “You didn’t expect this, did you, James? The woman who committed suicide because of her love for you would one day betray you.”
James said nothing in response, but his eyes grew red as he glared at Xanthakos.
Yiulia shouted anxiously, “Go, James! Don’t worry about me! You must survive to have a chance to take revenge, rescue your wife, and reclaim the Haleth…Ahh!”
Xanthakos pointed his fingers at her, sealing off her voice before she could finish speaking to James.
