Chapter 26
Quinn
"What do you mean you won't get me a passport?" I growl at the Storm River Beta.
"I'm sorry Luna but the Alpha will have my head if I were to have any part in sending you into the lion's den!" Carter states as he shakes his head, "If anyone should go, it's me and Beta Spencer."
I scoff, "And who the fuck is going to protect you when they use their magic?"
"Come on Quinn, don't put me in this position, please!" the Beta begs.
"And don't put me in the position to have to use my com- mand on you! I'm going and that's final!" I growl.
Carter glares at me, "Fine, but you had better protect me when Declan comes back and tries taking my head for putting his Luna and Queen in the line of fire!"
I roll my eyes, "You're exaggerating just a little bit."
"Are you fucking serious right now, Quinn? Declan has been head over heels in love with you since you turned eigh- teen. You don't know what it did to him when Lila fucked with him and then when you got with Gavin. He held on to hope, though, and now that he has you, he will take out anything and anyone who puts you in danger."
I stare at the Beta, amazed at how passionate he is about all of this, "I'm sorry Carter, I'm not trying to get you into trou- ble, I swear, but we all know that I am the only hope in bring- ing back mine and your sister's mate."
"At what expense, though, Quinn? You know damn well that Declan would give his life for you. He wouldn't survive losing you."
"What? You think I would survive his death? Especially knowing that there was a chance that I could have saved him?" I stare at the Beta long and hard, "If you don't get me those documents then I will have no choice but to relieve you of your duties! I want them on my desk at Dark Moon shortly after lunch!" I slam the door to his office and head back to my own pack.
I feel bad, I really do. Carter is my friend, but Declan is my mate, and his life is at stake. If I must choose, I will always choose my mate, Carter will just have to understand it. I am one hundred percent serious about relieving him of his duties. I will do it and then deal with the aftermath later once my mate is back at home.
"Well, what did my brother say?" Cici bombards me as soon as I climb out of my Camaro.
I laugh, "Down girl!" I joke.
"Did you just refer to me as a fucking dog? Now I see what Declan means!" My friend states offensively.
"The two of you are babies, that's all. Neither of you can take a joke."
"So? Are you going to tell me when we leave or what?" She asks.
I stop and face her, "First of all, you're not going..."
"You can't be serious! My mate is there too!"
"Yes, and I'm taking Spencer, but I will need you to stay behind and help Cam run the pack until I return. Besides, I doubt your brother will make one for you."
