Sheila arrived at the hotel with Goldie, looking downcast. She was already missing Athena but knew it was better not to show her face in the Dark Moon Pack ever again.
Stuffing her hand into the neck of her dress, she brought out the pendant, opened it, and glanced admiringly at Athena’s picture. “I miss you, ma’am. I always will.”
She took her phone and used the picture they snapped together as a screensaver. Goldie had no idea why Sheila was moody, feeling that she was regretting the divorce.
“You miss him?”
“Who?” Sheila’s nose scrunched up in annoyance, saddened that Goldie saw her to be so weak. She was indeed saddened that she lost the love battle since she had met Alpha Nick in her pack in her early teenage years.
She was training alone in the woods and dislocated her leg. Alpha Nick had come to visit with his father, and they slept over at the pack house. During a run around the pack, he saw Sheila in time and treated her dislocation before it was too late..
That was the first time Sheila saw him, instantly falling in love with him. Due to her brothers, she was more of a tomboy by then, so it was understandable that Alpha Nick and his father did not recognize her as the Alpha King’s only daughter.
“You know who,” Goldie confirmed with a pitiful look. Sheila shook her head and spoke seriously,
“He’s history to me, not worth my tears or worry, I only miss Athena. That woman loves me so much.”
Goldie was glad that somebody from the Dark Moon pack made Sheila happy. “Life happens. Is she the one who gave you that pendant?”
Looking fondly at the pendant once more, warmth replaced Sheila’s bitter memories from the Dark Moon pack.
“Yes.”
Goldie went closer, staring warmly at the pendant in Sheila’s hands. “It’s nice. Can I touch it?”
A frown slowly crept onto Sheila’s lips as she frowned, hugging the pendant selfishly. “No.”

Goldie laughed at her childlike and yet adorable behavior. Being that the pendant looked familiar, there were things about it that she knew Sheila was not aware of and insisted, “Please? Does it have a picture?”
Sheila smiled and opened the pendant, revealing Athena’s picture as she showed it to Goldie. “Yeah, hers.”
Goldie smiled, nodded her head before asking again, “On both sides?”
Sheila stiffened slightly, confusion playing on her mind as she asked in return, “Both sides? It has only one side.
to it.”
Goldie smiled and snatched the pendant from her. Flipping it, she opened the second part. “This pendant has two sides. My mom used to have one, remember?”
Sheila recalled that it was true. Goldie’s mother had a similar pendant. How could Sheila have forgotten? When Goldie opened the second side to the pendant, her eyes darkened, and her suspicions were confirmed.
“I knew it. She kept the picture of her piece of work son in it.”
About to pull out and tear the picture, Sheila reached out and retrieved the pendant. Seeing the said picture, a bitter smile settled at the corner of her lips.
“This is the only picture I ever had with him, our unfortunate wedding day. I guess I was the only happy one. Now, I’m the sad one. What was I even thinking to go against the mate bond?”
She tore the picture into two, removing the side of Alpha Nick before stuffing the remaining side into the pendant. Her actions were a mirror to her feelings. Alpha Nick no longer had a place in her heart, just like the
picture.
What hurt most was how he was so quick to accuse her when he wholeheartedly accepted Charlotte’s lies that she had been kidnapped.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but there can never be anything between your son and me ever again,” Sheila vowed with tears in her eyes. Goldie was satisfied, knowing that every trace of Alpha Nick in Sheila’s life had finally been torn
away.
“We could work on picking the best design for the gala award, but tomorrow, I want to visit the club once again.
