Alma’s words had successfully shocked both Scarlett and I into silence for a long moment. Hawk was not just the Alpha’s son but was also the next in line to take over his pack.
“How sure is he that this witch is his destined mate?” Scarlett finally gasped out, breaking the tense silence we had been locked in.
“He is sure enough that he would lay his own life down for hers.” Alma practically whispers back. I can see that this is sitting heavy on her heart and mind.
Seeing her obvious discomfort spurred me into action. “Well then I hope to be celebrating their mating ceremony soon. As I said before Luna Alma you will find that we have no issues with Viola, or your pack. I am actually hoping that this will help strengthen our bonds, and we would welcome her with open arms here.”
A smile broke out upon Alma’s face at my words. “Luna Daphne you cannot possibly fathom how much I appreciate your kind words. I have been worried for Hawk as well as our pack since Hawk declared Viola his destined mate. She is truly a lovely, wonderful woman, with a kind heart and a pure soul.”
“If she is as you say then why are you worried about their union?” Scarlett posed the question to Alma, but I already knew the answer.
“She is worried about how the other packs are going to react. If I am right, I can only assume that is why she did not accompany you all on this trip here.”
“Luna Daphne please understand we never meant any disrespect, but our kind is fearful of what they do not know nor understand.” Alma is quick to apologize.
“Alma please you have nothing to apologize for. As a Luna myself I understand the position you are in and the need to protect not only your son, but your pack as well. There is no offense taken at all. I do request though that after the summer bash and the others have left that you ask Viola and Hawk to visit us. We can say that Hawk and Caleb are continuing to strengthen pack bonds as he is taking over the position of Alpha soon. I swear on my life that your son, and future daughter in law will be safe here.” I hate to put this kind of pressure on Alma considering everything that she is going through, but my own pack has too many questions that need answers for me to wait. Still, I can feel the tendrils of guilt ripple through me as I make the request. I know that Alma is dealing with her husbands’ illness, her eldest son leaving the pack, and with the weight of knowing that her other son is to ascend as Alpha with a witch at his side.
“I do not see a problem with your request; however, I must tell you that technically Viola is not a member of my pack. I can request that she visit, but I cannot command her, nor will I make her against her will. We have built a tentative relationship, but she is still leery of our kind, and I will not break any trust that Hawk has earned with her either.” Alma sounds almost defeated as she agrees to ask Hawk and Viola.
As Scarlett and Alma continue to chat for a moment, mainly with Scarlett apologizing for revealing her secret, my mind is already turning through the events and wondering if we are any closer to some real answers. I need to find Caleb and find out if there has been any word from the messenger we sent out. There are a ton of things to do today, and I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed. My stomach growling loudly caused a fit of giggles from Scarlett.
