"I'm serious, Charles. I have a feeling that something bad will happen and you know, my gut feeling is always correct!" Sheryl said, worried.
Charles chuckled and replied, "Relax, dear. You're just being paranoid. Look, I know a lot has happened these past few days, but you need to take it easy. When the profile comes out tomorrow, they'll show that to Lancy right away, and it'll only be a matter of time before we're led to who she's working for. So don't worry, okay?"
"I don't know, Charles. I hope we catch him soon," Sheryl said, looking at her husband expectantly.
Charles rubbed his face against hers and assured her, "I'll always be here for you. Don't be scared. Try to think about the nice things."
Sheryl let out a loud laugh and rested her head on his neck, completely relaxed.
Charles smelled her hair and rubbed her back, pulling her closer. He felt like exploding and he couldn't control himself any longer.
"Since you still don't feel like sleeping, why don't we do something that'll tire you out? You'll be asleep in no time," he whispered into her ears, his hands exploring her back, and his breathing was quickening.
Sheryl felt her body getting hotter when she felt his heart beating quickly. She closed her eyes, a moan escaping her lips. She was feeling a bit nervous. Even though she'd already done this with Charles many times, she still felt anxious because she was reminded of their first time together.
"Sher…" Charles murmured. He could tell Sheryl was into it. He kissed her hair, her forehead, her eyes, her nose, until he found her lips.
He sighed when their lips touched. They took each other in as they kissed, pouring out their heart and soul to one another. Charles had been waiting for this for so long. They'd had so much barriers. First, Sheryl had to stay in the hospital, then Charles' mom came along and this was finally their time to reunite.
Sheryl suddenly stopped kissing him and lay down on the bed, pulling the sheet over her.
Charles chuckled, stripped his robe and followed her in bed, intertwining his body with hers.
Her body was much warmer than his so he could feel the heat emanating from her body and transferring to his. He was exploding and every part of him yearned for her.
Sheryl rubbed her neck against Charles, sighing in satisfaction, inhaling his cool scent.
Charles couldn't take it anymore. With a growl, he crawled on top of her.
Suddenly, Sheryl stopped him and grumbled, "Wait a second, Charles…"
"I can't, I can't..."
Charles said, still not stopping.
"You forgot something," Sheryl said softly, holding his face and kissing him on the lips.
Charles understood. She wasn't in the safe window and because they'd decided to not have a third kid, they needed contraception.
Charles got off her, scrambled for a condom, and went right back on top of her.
"Honey, will you put it on for me?" he asked, winking at her.
"Oh, please!" Sheryl scoffed.
Charles hurriedly put it on and came at her like a hungry wolf, chuckling.
Meanwhile, the police was working around the clock despite the quiet of the dawn breaking.
The other police officers who weren't on duty had decided to call it a day and sneak in some sleep before another day of work came.
It was the quietest time of the day so the remaining two police officers kept each other awake by talking.
"I can't keep my eyes open anymore, dude. I just want lie down on my bed," the first cop said, yawning.
"Yeah, better if you have a woman waiting for you in bed, right?" the second cop joked.
"Stop! I can't even remember the last time I saw you with a girl! Why don't you go get yourself a girlfriend?" the first one said.
And then, another thud followed.
Lancy sat up right away, eyes fixed towards the entrance of her cell.
She covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming and her eyes were widened in fear.
Standing at the entrance of her cell was a tall man wearing a mask.
Lancy recognized him. It was the same man who'd contacted her first that started this whole thing in the first place. But what was he doing here? She froze.
A chill ran down her spine as the man coldly gazed at her.
She didn't know what to do. The man had always been cold and aloof whenever they'd talk before but he never looked like this. Tonight, he looked like he was going to kill her.
Lancy suddenly thought of something.
He was here to shut her up.
He was going to kill her.
Lancy opened her mouth to shout but the man had thrown something at her. It was shining in the dark and it hit her right in the throat.
She tried to shout but she realized she couldn't make a sound anymore.
She stared at the man in disbelief. She felt a sharp pain shoot through her throat and she found it difficult to breathe.
She lifted her hand to hold her throat and felt something warm and wet gushing out.
She opened her mouth—a silent scream. She slowly felt her life slipping by her.
