The baby contract novel Chapter 63

" It won't work Carla, besides we met each other not long ago " Jenny tried to explain calmly this time.

" You can make it work, Jenny! " Carla exclaimed, trying to drum sense into her best friend.

Jenny shook her head " I'll think about it... Hey! Are you telling me to make the first move?? " She became wide eyed.

Carla nodded and leaned forward in her seat " You should, what if he feels the same way and doesn't want to make the first move because he's scared of rejection?? You have to do it , Jenny! "

Jenny sneered " Coming from someone who keeps insisting that her marriage is fake "

" Because it is " Carla shot back.

" Nah it isn't " Jenny disagreed totally.

Carla rolled her eyes and took a sip from her drink.

" Speaking of which, how are you guys doing these days? " Jenny asked curiously.

She frowned " I guess marital life suits you, now that I'm staring at you closely, your face seems to have filled out a bit. Wow it must really be good to be married " She smiled wistfully.

Carla's eyes widened " My face?? You mean I've added fat?? " She looked horrified.

Jenny laughed " Come on its just your face, I'm not sure it's the same thing as your body " Then she sat back and studied Carla more closely, checking her out fully.

She looked thoughtful " You're not bad, I guess why do you look so terrible by the fact that you might have added some weight? "

Carla sighed and proceeded to tell her everything that has occurred in the past few days.

She started talking " I was sick recently and... "

Jenny cut her off " You were sick?! And you didn't inform me about it until now?? " She shrieked.

Carla sighed, feeling guilty " I'm sorry, I just felt it wasn't a big deal and I could handle it "

Jenny raised her eyebrows " So did you handle it yourself? " She taunted.

" I bet you didn't inform Liam because you thought you could handle it yourself, right? " She added with a sneer.

" Come on, I told him after I went for a checkup at a hospital " Carla said quietly.

" Hospital?! " Jenny shrieked " It got worse to the point where you had to go to the hospital?? And you didn't even tell me anything?? Wow "

Carla reached out and squeezed Jenny's hands in hers " I'm sorry, I just didn't want to be a bother to anyone, Jenny " And she looked really sorry.

" Okay fine " Jenny sighed " Go on, what happened at the hospital? Was it some flu you caught? "

Carla shook her head " No it wasn't flu or fever like I expected, I was made to run some tests... "

Again , Jenny cut her off " You even went through tests?? Was it that bad? Are you okay? " She asked frantically, searching Carla's face closely as if she feared the illness might still lingered somewhere around her body.

Carla smiled a little " I'm fine Jenny, just listen to what I want to say "

" Oh sorry, go ahead " Jenny said and adjusted herself on her seat.

Jenny smirked " I asked you what Liam's response was when you told him you're carrying his baby? "

Carla blushed " Of course he was happy, this is what brought us together, isn't it? "

Jenny whistled " Wow! So you're going to be a mother?? " She asked rhetorically but Carla answered anyway.

" Yeah " Carla said proudly and tucked her hair behind her ear, feeling a wave of confidence washed through her.

Jenny clapped her hands in excitement " Yay! I can't wait to be an aunt! "

Carla laughed, sharing her excitement and they laughed together.

" I don't see your driver around, who brought you here? " Jenny asked, looking around.

" My husband " Carla said proudly.

Jenny snorted " Coming from the mouth of someone who claims she doesn't love the man in her life, claims it's a marriage in name only "

" Stop! " Carla blushed furiously and slapped Jenny lightly on the arm.

They talked late into the night until Jenny decided it was time for Carla to go home. Carla checked her wristwatch. It was past 8.
