The Beta's Regret (Eden and Eros) novel Chapter 286

(Eden’s Pov)

Siblings?

One, a light and the other intense darkness.

They stared at each other, eye to eye without a flinching.

Before I could blink, the fight between Hades and the moon goddess exploded. The sudden shift in the air oozed of violence.

Hades struck a blow at the moon goddess which she evaded with a swift shift.

She attacked with a strike of her staff at him which he was also quick to avoid.

The skies slowly began to change colour, dark clouds closing over the fading blood moon. The darkness that threatened to follow was thick and intense.

Thunder rumbled and lightning struck in the farthest distance. The noise came with a raging wind that shook up the trees and grasses around.

My hair whipped around my face and I quickly brushed it back, eager to see the end of this.

Suddenly, the wind calmed, and another uproar began again, it was peace and storm, light and darkness as the atmosphere changed intermittently.

I still held Lily close to me as she whimpered in my arms. I knew she could feel the change in the atmosphere and it was affecting her greatly.

Worried about the infant, I placed her against my chest, her heartbeat against mine, it was surprisingly calm, almost as if she knew that in that moment all that I needed was a certain comfort that her steady heart beat offered.

I noticed that with every tension that rocked my body, Lily reacted to it. She wasn't scared of what was happening around her, she whimpered because she felt the tension in me.

She looked at me, her soft innocent eyes curiously watching me.

With a toothless smile, she reached out a hand to my hair and wrapped a strand around her finger which she tugged on.

Hades and the moon goddess fought furiously, their movements a blur of speed as they went head to head against each other.

I heard voices, at first, it was unclear. I couldn’t hear what they said to each other. I listened well, and began to hear what they were saying, their voices hidden beneath the rage. The words hit me with a force as they continued.

“You never cease to be a disappointment.” The moon goddess said angrily. “No matter how much the Supreme God tries to give you a chance, you never cease to ruin every one of it.”

Hades sneered. “Father has never given me a chance. You have always been the golden child, child of the light, the one he favours." The bitterness in Hades' voice was great. “You got all of his love, his praises. There was nothing left for me.”

The Moon goddess replied calmly. “It wasn't about who was better or about favour and Love. Father loved you, and you know it. All he wanted was a balance, something you refused to understand.”

The storm raged the more, a whirlwind surrounded the gods as they were exchanged in their fight.

I wasn't sure I understood what they were talking about, but from what I could discern, Hades must have imagined that his father, who they referred to as the Supreme God who created it all, sidelined him in favour of his sister.
