Maverick POV.
Seeing those beautiful golden honey coloured eyes dim slightly hurt my chest. Watching as Harmony walked past us with no expression on her face, I know she didn’t want to do it, but she did it anyway.
We all turn to watch her walk away. Her head held high, her back ram-rod straight, her steps don’t falter, not once. But it’s her hands that give her away, not because they are shaking but because she has balled her fists tight.
The room is deadly silent as we all watch her move out of sight. I turn my head and look at everyone in this room.
“She never raises a gun for that purpose again.” I state as I look at my presidents and the other members.
“She never will, not again. Go after her Mav, make sure she is ok. Because I know she won’t be,” Rebel says as she squeezes my shoulder and I look down at her. I nod my head and make off to follow Harmony. I jog through the prison and outside. I look around for her, blinking from the glare of the snow.
I follow her footprints in the snow, and she has moved behind the prison. I follow her; the footprints go deeper into the woods that surround the compound. I see a flash of black and orange. Mystique.
I follow the Patger and there she is. Sitting on a rock with one knee to her chest, her cheek resting on the bent knee, looking away towards the surrounding woods. I see Mystique walk up to her, slowly, chuffing at Harmony.
Mystique nudges Harmony with her big head and yowls at her. She can sense Harmony is upset. I watch for a moment.
“I had to kill two people today, out of duty not only for my family but for those they had harmed, you included Myst. I hate this part of the family, but I come from a long line of badass women. But I’m not like that, not on the surface anyway. I feel sad for Melody and Lucky that I have just killed the people who were meant to protect them.” I watch as Harmony turns her head and lifts her hand to stroke Mystique’s head and I can see it in her face, in her eyes. Harmony is devastated.
She clutches Mystique’s fur and brings her face into the Patger’s neck. Her shoulders shake and I know she is crying. I walk closer to her, my boots crunching under the snow. I raise my hands to show Mystique I mean no harm as I edge closer to Harmony.
“Baby girl, it’s ok. I’ve got you.” I say as my heart rips apart watching and hearing her fall apart. I lift Harmony into my arms and sit her on my lap on the freezing cold rock.
I just hold her as she cries, rocking us gently from side to side. Mystique places her head on Harmony’s lap and chuffs. I smile slightly at this. For such a dangerous big cat, Mystique is really gentle, until she isn’t.
“I’m ok Mav, I know it won’t be the last time I have to do something like that. I have to get used to it.” Now that makes me angry. I sigh and shake my head to contain the rage that I feel moving through my veins. That this gentle, kind-hearted woman thinks she will have to do that again. Well, she fucking won’t be, not on my watch. She will never have to lift a gun again. I will make sure of it.
“No, baby, no I promise you, you will never have to lift a gun for that matter again. I know you think you have to because of the club and who your family is. Harmony you are you, you are not them. The only time I want to ever see you with a gun or any weapon in your hand again is to defend yourself, not to execute. You have me and all the brothers for that. Don’t let this taint you. You are too amazing for that. I love you baby and I know everything will be ok once we get over this little speed bump.” I tell her as I just hold her and she sighs before she looks at me.
