Scythe POV.
Waking the next afternoon next to the sleeping redhead. I climb out of bed. I texted Rebel, telling her I was heading out last night, but she didn’t respond, no doubt having her own fun. I look at the sleeping woman at the side of me and I hate this part. I wake her up and tell her it’s time for her to leave. At least she doesn’t try to cling.
Once again, the only way for me to satisfy this woman or any woman was to imagine they were Rebel. I know that’s all kinds of sick and wrong, but I need my release too. Even if I can’t have Rebel. Rebel is just perfect. She knows I’m bisexual and doesn’t bat an eye at that. Then again, so is she. But I only want her, but I know I can’t have her.
She doesn’t know how much I love her. How much it hurts to see her with other men and women. How I wish it was me that makes her scream. But I know nothing will happen between us. She doesn’t see me like that. To her, I’m like a brother, her partner in crime, her hunting buddy.
We call it hunting when we are on the hunt for someone to help with our release. Walking to our living room, I know she isn’t home. No doubt she got lucky. That hurts the more I think about it. I pick my phone up off the coffee table and see she has texted me. I open the message.
Rebel: Hey, hope you had a blast. Winking devil, tongue, aubergine and water splash emojis. I had some work to do, catcha later, don’t wait up xx
I sigh, knowing what that means. She thinks I don’t know about her involvement with the Mother’s Revenge, but we all know. The whole club knows. But they never see her to talk about it, she doesn’t come around the Clubhouse anymore.
When Rebel was shot five years ago. Angel and Savage were beside themselves. They blamed themselves for how she turned out. No one reassured them that it wasn’t. We know it was. They could have done better, but they didn’t. They failed her and so did the club and her family.
I wait for Samantha? Sarah? Sally? Whatever her name is to leave in her Uber and head to my cage. We call anything that isn’t a bike a cage. I climb into the truck and start it up, and head to the clubhouse. I left my bike there when Rebel called last night for our impromptu night out.
As I pull up to the clubhouse compound. I shut the truck off and climb out. I walk up the steps and inside, ignoring the brothers and their ole ladies. I walk towards the bar and ask the prospect for a beer. I sit at the bar and think, what am I going to do about Rebel? One of these days, she is going to get herself killed.
“Hey, son, why the long face?” I look at the man who I have called dad since I was small. I know he isn’t my real father, but it takes a special kind of man to raise the child of another man.
“Rebel.” Is all I have to say to him and he sits beside me. He and my mom both know how I feel about her. Hell, how I’ve always felt about her. I think everyone in the club knows, but either she does and doesn’t acknowledge it or she is oblivious to it.
“Son, I know it’s hard, especially after everything she has been through. Give her time and she will come round.” I hang my head and shake it.
“That’s just it, dad. I don’t think she ever will. She is off doing god knows what with who and doesn’t see me like that. If she was anyone else, I would go all King Kong and just make it happen. But it’s Rebel, dad. She would kick my ass if I step out of line with her. It is becoming harder, you know. We live together, hell I’ve held her when she was hurt, during everything we have been there for her. You, mom, Scar you all practically raised her.” I say because he knows how it has been for us.
I would die for her, hell I’ve even killed for her. Yet she doesn’t look at me like anything other than her friend. And it sucks, big time.
“I know son, I think it’s time you either tell her how you feel or you walk away,” he says and I sigh, knowing he is right. I nod my head and drink my beer. We shoot the shit about everything that has been happening lately when the clubhouse door opens and in walks Angel, Savage, Luna, and RJ. Just great. I roll my eyes as they walk inside.
