The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 631

Daisy had been onto Penelope's game for a while now. She'd been camped out at the hospital for over an hour, just waiting for Penelope to show up. The moment Penelope walked in with two journalists in tow, Daisy couldn't help but quip, "Oh, so it's fine for you to just waltz in, but it's a problem if I do?"

Grace, caught off guard by the media circus now invading her hospital room, stammered, "What's all this...?"

"Don’t worry about them, Aunt Grace. How are you feeling? Getting any better?" Penelope asked, brushing off the question as she gracefully pulled up a chair next to Grace's bed.

Grace, surprised by Penelope's sudden display of concern, took a moment before replying with a slightly excited smile, "I'm doing quite well, thank you."

One of the journalists started snapping photos from every angle, while the other kept the video camera rolling.

Daisy watched Penelope's little charade with a hint of disdain. She knew Penelope was looking for a publicity stunt. Penelope picked up an apple from the fruit basket and began peeling it. After Grace took a couple of bites, she politely declined more. "You have some, Penelope. I can't eat much."

Penelope quickly set aside the peeler, wiped her fingers with a napkin, and turned to the journalists. "Did you get everything you need?"

The journalist nodded. "All set, you can count on us."

After a few more warm exchanges with Grace, Penelope opened her purse. "Auntie, I brought you a little something. It's a necklace I picked out for you. I hope you like it."

Daisy wasn't surprised when Penelope pulled out a branded jewelry bag. She knew what was coming next. Standing up, she cut in, "Ms. Grace, Allison sent me with a gift for you."

She pulled out a plush jewelry box from her bag, no bigger than the palm of her hand, and when she opened it, the room was filled with a dazzling light. It was a rose diamond necklace, sparkling brilliantly.

And to make matters worse, the necklace she had intended to give Grace was a modest pearl one. Not cheap, but it paled in comparison to the sixty-thousand-dollar rose diamond necklace now adorning Grace's neck.

Penelope tried to discreetly stow her gift back into her purse.

"Oh my, Penelope, what's this gift you've got for Auntie? Another necklace? I see it's from the same designer as Allison's. Birds of a feather, you besties have such similar taste," Daisy remarked with pointed emphasis on "besties," her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Penelope's face stiffened. "It's nothing."

"Now, now, Ms. Flanagan, no need to be shy. Bring it out and give Auntie a lovely surprise," Daisy urged, not letting Penelope off the hook easily.
