Chapter 136: Power
Daniel rolled down his window and looked at the officers that were walking forward. He suddenly was filled with a bad feeling.
“You broke several traffic violations there. You can’t be speeding on this road. Please park to the side,” the office said.
“Officer, how about you write me a ticket and I can be on my way? I have something on, Daniel hoped to get this matter quickly handled.
But the officers seemed adamant to keep him there. They started checking his documents and his car for violations as slowly as possible.
“I can’t do this right now; I need to get going.” Daniel insisted.

“Not after finishing this. I need to check your alcohol levels,” the officer said.
This tense back–and–forth continued this way and dragged on far longer than typical for a traffic patrol stop.
Every delay made Daniel almost go off in rage. Daniel stole glances at his watch every few minutes, mentally calculating how much of a head start those agents had before they got to Anya.
“Look, my wife is in a highly unsafe situation right now. Every second I’m kept here puts her at greater risk.” Daniel’s frustration was making its way into his voice. But this did not matter to the traffic police.
The traffic police merely shrugged, without any care. “Sir, you need to follow all the rules. If you are clear to go, we
will let you go.” They continued their slow check on his car.
“I don’t have time for this,” Daniel muttered.
“You are
going to have to make time,” one of the officers said. “Now stay put while I confirm your documents.”
His mind raced over worst–case scenarios. He knew all too well how the government worked. What were the chances that the traffic police would stop him at this moment?
It was almost impossible. One could call it a coincidence, but Daniel did not believe it. Someone was pulling the strings.
He glanced at the traffic officers moving like snails, and suddenly a thought crossed his mind: Where are they keeping him here on purpose?
Daniel’s frustration level spiked as he received a call from his father. Michael confirmed his
worst fears.
“Dad,” Daniel said.
“Daniel, where are you?” Micheal asked.
“Stopped by traffic police. Dad, can you hurriedly get to Anya? She is at home alone, and agents are coming to the house to take her away for questioning.” Daniel asked.
“Well, that explains it,” Michael said.
“What?” Daniel asked.
“Why am I being held by airport security for no reason? It started to feel as though someone was trying to stop me from leaving.”
“Anya. They want to take her while we are not there,” Daniel answered.
This was a coordinated effort to separate and isolate each member of the Shaw family to stop any of them from getting to Anya in time.
This was bad.
“Those bastards are trying to box us out while they get to Anya,” Daniel spat into the phone, his free hand clenched into a fist. “They know if we are there, it will be hard for any of them to get to Anya privately. This is bad; if they want to take her now, it means the president is out of options.”
On the other end, Michael’s voice could be heard over others in the background. They were telling him to put away his phone. “I’m still on the tarmac getting harassed by these airport security. They’re denying me entry into the city, saying some nonsense about security protocols being violated.”
able to speak
A rough sound could be heard on the other end of the line before Michael was again. “Looks like they’re bringing out reinforcements to physically keep me on the plane if needed. Daniel, they’re not taking any chances letting me through.”
Daniel pinched the bridge of his nose, suppressing the urge to shout out curses. “Okay, okay, don’t resist and make a scene. The last thing we need is you getting arrested and removed. They can only delay us. They don’t have a reason to take anyone in yet.”
Pausing to gather his thoughts, Daniel formulated a hasty plan. “What about Mom? Were you able to reach her?”
A troubled sigh rolled through the phone’s speaker. “I tried calling the house, but the line was immediately picked up by the estate security. He says the entire neighborhood is under lockdown and quarantine. No one is permitted to enter or exit.”

Daniel chuckled darkly.
“So they’ve got you bottled up at the airport, Mom trapped inside her home, and who knows. what other tactics they’re using for anyone else while they have these traffic police try slowing me down. The president is throwing his power at us. He is desperate,” Daniel said.
“If they
“If they get Anya, he gets me. Checkmate,” Daniel said. Michael could hear the anger in his
voice.
“They won’t get her,” Michael said.
“Of course they won’t. You focus on getting out of that airport as slowly as possible.”
“You have this under control?” Micheal asked.
“Yes.”
“Then I will relax,” Michael said.
The line crackled again with the sounds of a man’s voice making its way into the receiver. “Mr. Shaw, we are here to question you. You need to put away your phone for the time being.”
Then the phone went dead.
Daniel slowly lowered the phone, staring at it darkly. His panic had slowly been swept away.
It seems that the president wanted to see him fight the government. Well, Daniel did not mind.
Daniel picked up his phone. He called Jerry. Jerry answered, “Hello?”

Daniel said, “Jerry, someone is trying to question Anya. But they don’t want any of my family to get near her. They have made plans to stop us from reaching her.”
Jerry asked in reply, “The president?”
“Yes, find out which agency is handling the entire stall operation,” Daniel said.
“Don’t worry, Daniel, I will look into this right away. I will find out as much as I can, but there is not a lot of time,” Jerry said.
