Chapter 38: buying her childhood home. 

It was a one–hour flight between the two cities and took her a long thirty–minute‘ drive that seemed like an eternity to get to her hotel. She checked in and had a bath. Resting on the bed, she could not find sleep, so she scrolled through her phone for the number of the agent that was trying to sell her childhood home. 

She recalled that home. She and her mother were poor, but it was not always so. When she was a child, her father was still there. She lives in that house. When things were wrong afterwards, she missed this home. 

She had not registered what time it was when she made the call. By the time her eyes wandered to the clock on the wall, she wanted to end the call, but the person on the other side had already answered it. 

“Who is this?” the person asked. 

“Hello, I am sorry for calling you so late at night. I was wondering if the house I saw on your listing is still available.” She asked, and the person on the other end became very excited. 

The real estate agent was so happy, he almost jumped from his skin. 

He had taken on the job of selling that house in hopes that he would make a large commission, only to find out why no one had taken it in the first place. It was a house he could not sell. It had even stained his record because he could not get it off his hands. He was excited and anxious anytime someone called about this house. He had hope. 

“Yes, it is,” he said. “Do you mean the courtyard by Rider Street?” He asked. 

“Yes, that one,” she answered. “What is the price at the moment?” She asked. When he responded, she secretly sighed in relief.

“I would like to buy it; do you have time to take me around tomorrow?” she asked, and the excited real estate agent immediately agreed, and they set a time. 

Daniel finished up with Selene that night and rushed home. Even though he had brushed Anya off, he was a little curious about her emergency, so he settled his matters and returned to the city early. He was still firm in his decision to divorce Anya. 

They had an agreement, and it was time. He had thought she was the kind of woman who would not make a fuss for him and make things difficult. But she actually hurt Selene. 

Eve after she was forced to apologize, Daniel felt she was not remorseful. Even more so when he saw how Selene was doing. 

Yet when he suddenly saw her call in the car and her name clearly displayed on his phone, he ‘was annoyed. He had not even settled things with her for what she did to Selene, yet she actually called to give him an ultimatum. 

He was still angry. 

He decided then that it seemed the marriage needed to end. He had promised Selene that he would take care of her. Yet Anya nearly killed her 

Since he was back anyway, he decided to ask her why she invaded his privacy. 

When he arrived at the mansion, the staff had long been informed that he would be returning. So, he walked in to find a meal being prepared and a bath already drawn. 

He went up to his room on the second floor to clean up before coming back down to have his

“Tell the madam to come down; I need to talk to her,” he instructed Mrs. Johnson, who paused at his words. 

Mrs. Johnson suddenly realized that Mr. Shaw did not know the madam had left. She held back the distaste in her mouth when she looked at him. 

“Sir, the madam has left,” she answered, and he frowned. 

“Left? Where did she go? Why is she not back by this time of the night?” Daniel paused and 

asked. 

“The Madam…” she started to say, then corrected herself, “Miss Jones had moved out. She informed the staff of your divorce and moved out,” she explained, and Daniel found himself slightly lost for a reason. 

“Mr. Kent had already come today?” he asked, and she nodded. 

“Mr. Kent came by at noon and Miss Jones packed up and left by sundown,” she explained, and he recalled that he had told his assistant to have the divorce handled quickly. Realizing this, he marveled at Mr. Kent’s ability. It seems he did not hire him for nothing. Daniel appreciated his 

swiftness. 

“Fine, go about your duty,” he dismissed Mrs. Johnson to her disappointment. When she had noticed that he did not know that Miss Jones had moved out, she had thought that he would feel remorse but was disappointed in his lack of emotion. She left him alone, as he had asked. 

Daniel was quite surprised, or better yet, shocked, that Anya had already moved out. He had lived with her for three years, and he was not stupid. 

Puying her odd ben 

He had seen the look in her eyes when she looked at him. He had noticed that she was overly enthusiastic when they had first married. 

The first few months of marriage were odd. She did not need to cook, as they had a cook, but she would always insist on cooking for him. He knew that she was in love with him. 

When he had returned and she was nowhere to be found, he had thought she was hiding upstairs because he had suddenly asked for a divorce. When he could not take it anymore, he had moved out. Three years later, she had actually left? The divorce papers came by at noon and she left by sun down? 

A wave of confusion hit him while he ate. He could not concentrate on his food and soon lost his appetite after a little while, so he stopped eating and returned to his room. He took out his phone after a while and called his divorce lawyer, Mr. Kent. 

It took only a few seconds, and Mr. Kent picked up his call.
