Anastasia knew Sandy pretty well, and she was definitely not someone easily swayed by infatuation.
Feeling a strange sensation creeping up her spine, Anastasia asked, "Dad, have you ever met the guy? What's his name?"
"Nope, never seen him," Tavon replied, a bit annoyed. "I just heard Sandy's got him tucked away in some villa. Girls these days, they hear a few sweet words from a smooth-talker and they're hooked. I've given up meddling with her and her brother. They say kids are debts from a past life; your mom was right. I'm paying off that debt, and at my age, I'm done with all the fuss. Anyway, you're running Elysian Technologies now, and that's all that matters to me."
Tavon had been wrestling with his feelings, but Salma's comforting words had helped him see things differently.
The main reason for his newfound peace was that Anastasia was now in charge. Being known as the father of the head of Elysian Technologies carried more weight than any other title he could imagine.
Anastasia was intrigued by the mysterious person advising Sandy from the shadows.
For some reason, she felt an irresistible urge to dig deeper and find out more about this person.
"Dad, maybe this person Sandy hired actually knows what they're doing. They have a sharp eye for business," Anastasia said. "Herman was always focused on renewable energy. I've taken over that project now. If it succeeds, it won't just propel Elysian Technologies to new heights and fill our coffers. It'll also benefit humanity."
Tavon was taken aback. "Is there really potential in renewable energy?"
To Tavon, Herman's decisions were always spot on.
Anastasia nodded. "But it's a field that demands a lot of financial resources. Without advanced technology and funding, it's tough to scale. Even if we develop something, the patents alone could be our meal ticket for generations."
Anastasia's words made Tavon reconsider. "So Sandy is genuinely focused on her work, huh? I thought she was just keeping a pretty boy around."
Tavon had never met the person Sandy was housing, only heard snippets from Sean.
As they chatted, Pattie came downstairs after her class.
Seeing Anastasia still there, Pattie gleefully sat beside her, hugged her arm, and snuggled close. "Mom, I thought you had left."
"I'm staying for lunch with you," Anastasia said, gently stroking Pattie's forehead. "You're growing up so fast."
Anastasia remembered the first time she met Pattie. She had been just four years old, frail and small due to malnutrition. Now, at seven, she was thriving. The past three years had flown by.
In those three years, Anastasia had experienced so much. She had met and fallen in love with Herman, had a child, but then Grannie Anita and Julie schemed to cause her miscarriage...
"When did your godmother visit?" Anastasia inquired.
Salma approached with a smile. "Monica stopped by yesterday and mentioned to Pattie that she'd take her to see the cherry blossoms. It's spring, after all. A little outing would be good."
Jason had asked Monica out, and she was feeling a bit awkward about it, thinking that bringing Pattie along might ease the atmosphere.
Anastasia smiled softly. "Sounds wonderful. Let's go see the cherry blossoms this weekend."
She remembered Herman's promise to her last winter, about taking her to see the cherry blossoms in the spring.
He had promised her many things that he could no longer fulfill.
Just then, Anastasia's phone rang. It was Dailey calling.
Dailey had been in Springfield, searching for any trace of Herman. Anastasia's heart leapt at the thought he might have news, and she quickly answered the call...

Author pls Pls don't separate Ana and Herman once again because of Sandy. There must be an ending to Ana's sufferings!...
Yes yes yes!!! Thank you!!!...
How comes the twists are becoming uninteresting and unrealistic? Readers will prefer cleaner straight happy endings. Please don't go far beyond otherwise readers will lose interest. Time to end the story like we want it to be....
