The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman) novel Chapter 761

"Hey, Ana," Dailey said over the phone. "We've found another missing person from the village, but the boss is still unaccounted for. I suspect he wasn't swept away by the river after all."

Anastasia could barely contain her excitement. "You mean... he might still be alive?"

Her voice trembled with hope. Even the mere possibility of Herman being alive was a beacon of hope compared to finding a body. As long as he wasn't found, there was still a chance.

Hearing this, Tavon, Salma, and Pattie gathered around, eager for any news about Herman.

"I think so," Dailey continued. "If I remember correctly, the boss was last seen entering a tunnel. Eight people came out of there alive, and even the severely injured have recovered. I went around checking and got a lead—someone saw a rescue team carrying a person with vital signs from the boss's car."

Herman's car was a limited edition Maybach, costing a seven-figure sum, nearly eight. Men have a thing for luxury cars; it’s like a universal trait. A fancy car is like a badge of honor. Ask a guy to spend ten grand on a wedding, he’ll balk. Ask him to spend it on a car, and suddenly it’s too little to make a statement. Even if he’s broke, he’ll take out a loan for a six-figure ride.

Anastasia, her emotions running high, asked, "Where is he then? If he was injured, he should've been taken to a hospital, but he's not on any list, not even the deceased."

She'd personally checked every list, hoping Herman wasn’t swept away by the river.

"This is all I've got for now," Dailey admitted. "Ana, I suspect someone might have taken the boss from the accident scene."

"Who?" Anastasia quickly thought of someone. "Rowan? I saw him in Springfield."

"We don't know yet," Dailey replied. "The rescue scene was chaotic, and many volunteers were involved. Some were local villagers, so it's hard to pinpoint who took him. I'm heading to the borderlands to investigate."

Dailey suspected Asher Rowan might be involved, which is why he called Anastasia to keep her updated.

"Please be careful, Dailey," Anastasia urged sincerely. "Thank you for everything."

"I owe him my life, Ana. Don't worry, if he's alive, I'll bring him back," Dailey promised.

After the call, Anastasia couldn't calm down, tears of joy brimming in her eyes. Even this sliver of hope was enough to bring her to tears.

She needed to take care of herself so she could hold the fort until Herman returned.

Thanks to Dailey’s call, Anastasia had an appetite. She even had an extra helping of mashed potatoes, and Pattie seemed to be eating heartily, too.

After lunch, Anastasia headed to the office.

Flynn had been there since morning. He seemed more responsible now. Anastasia said, "Herman would be proud of how you've changed."

"Ana," Flynn replied, "I was a mess before, always causing trouble for Herman. Now, with everything going on and Herman gone, I can't just let you handle it all alone. I have to step up."

"Don’t overwork yourself, Ana. You've lost weight," Flynn continued.

"I will," Anastasia smiled. "I’ll take care of myself, or else your brother will worry when he returns. Dailey called and said Herman might still be alive."
