The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday novel Chapter 293

"What's up? Why are you staring at me like that?"

A bit puzzled, Freya looked at Preston and said, "Didn’t you tell me to have a drink?"

Preston replied, "I told you to sip, not to chug."

Saying so, Preston took back the glass from Freya. "This drink's strong. One glass is enough for you. You might have a headache tomorrow."

"I'm already feeling a bit dizzy." Freya leaned back on the couch, saying, "Mixing it with some juice might have tasted better. But didn't Dr. Anderson tell me I should drink with my injury?"

"A little sip helps with sleep."

"That's true." Freya had never seen the appeal of alcohol until she began to feel its effects sneaking up on her. Then, out of the blue, she blurted out, "Tell me, do you have ulterior motives for being close to me?"

When Preston caught Freya's direct gaze, he knew she was drunk. Her tolerance was much worse than he had anticipated.

Freya stood up and went straight for the glass in Preston's hand.

Caught off guard, Preston let Freya take it from him.

Freya poured herself another glass and gulped it down quickly. This time, she let out a burp, and the dizzy feeling got even stronger.

"You must have an agenda with me." Freya reaffirmed her suspicion, then suddenly leaned in closer to Preston. That direct gaze made Preston chuckle.

Freya said, "Let me guess. You're trying to use me against Kieran, right?"

Preston's smile gradually faded.
