The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 131

Avery searched downstairs for nearly an hour but still could not find her grandfather.

She panicked and returned upstairs to search around the empty rented house again. It hit her that her grandfather was truly missing.

Grandpa's cane is missing. Perhaps he took it with him when he went downstairs. But Grandpa usually won't take his cane unless he is going somewhere far. He only uses it as support when concerned that he does not have enough stamina to walk back.

Avery entered Blake's bedroom again.

She remembered Blake was fine when she left for a date with Brodie.

However, during dinner, Blake had once said, “Sometimes, I could not help but think it is not good to live too long. I feel like a burden to you now that I am old...”

Could Grandpa have run away from home?

Avery shook her head and did not believe Blake would do that.

Then, she opened the wardrobe in Blake's bedroom and looked closely. However, she was unsure how many sets of clothes Blake had brought to Ackleton. Thus, she could not tell whether any of them were missing.

However, the wardrobe showed signs of being rummaged.

It seems Grandpa has taken his clothes and the cane. Has he run away for real?

Avery could not calm down and called Alina. She had not kept in touch with her for a long time.

Even if Grandpa has run away from home, I don't think he will look for Aunt Alina.

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service...” A robotic voice sounded from the phone.

Aunt Alina's number is out of service. She must have stopped using this number a long time ago.

Then, Avery called her father, Leonardo.

Leonardo chatted with her for a while, telling her he was in good health and did not face any severe health conditions. Then, he told her to focus on work and not to worry about him.

Hearing that, Avery instantly understood that Leonardo had nothing to do with Blake's disappearance.

Therefore, everything seemed to point to the possibility of Blake running away because he did not want to burden her.

Avery frowned in panic. She glanced at the dessert box placed against the wall before heading over and squatting down to open it. She took out a card from it.

The card had a heartwarming and romantic cartoon printed on it.

However, there was no name.

Thus, Avery began to panic even more.

She pursed her lips and forced herself to stand up. Then, she pondered for a minute before looking at the dessert again. She suddenly remembered what had happened after Cayden stopped her when she was walking from Dylan's residence to the city area.

Brodie had sent her a WhatsApp message about that dessert shop and said ladies liked to go on a date there. Cayden had seen the message too.

What is Cayden's character? He is usually stern and unapproachable. However, he can sometimes be childish and more unpredictable than any teenager in love. He is also petty, and he'd pick fights about anything. I believe I know who sent this dessert.

Avery took her bag and rushed out of the house. At the same time, she called Cayden on his phone.

However, Cayden did not answer the phone.

She tried to call him a few more times, but it was still the same.

Then, she stood in the elevator and became lost in her thoughts.

Grandpa must have been taken away by Cayden's subordinates. He hasn't gone missing and is probably playing chess and having tea with Old Mr. Moore. Previously, Cayden took Grandpa to the Moore residence. Grandpa told me a few youngsters had tried to scam him as he was taking a walk downstairs. Luckily, Cayden appeared and dealt with the matter efficiently. Then, he kindly brought Grandpa to his home.

Avery came out of the residential area and waved to hail a taxi.

She got into the taxi and felt melancholic as she looked at the passing night scenery.

Cayden is a caring and thoughtful man. He is undeniably a perfect lover and an ideal husband. Unfortunately, we are destined not to be a couple in this life.

Avery tried to call Cayden many times in the taxi, but none of her calls got through.

She believed Blake might be in the Moore residence.

The taxi soon arrived at the Moore residence. Avery got out of the car and said to the driver, “Can you wait here for a moment?”

The taxi driver nodded.

Avery went to the front gate and pressed the doorbell. She planned to take Blake home as soon as she saw him.

Soon, the butler cum driver came to open the gate.

“Ms. Rumpley, what brings you here?” The butler was surprised to see her.

“I'm looking for my grandpa.” Avery looked at the butler and asked politely, “May I ask if he is here?”

However, the butler's answer stirred up her panic again. “Your grandpa is not here.”

“He's not here?” Avery looked toward the courtyard and saw there was no one there. “Is Cayden here?”

Avery was sure Cayden was the one who had arranged the dessert delivery.

“Mr. Moore is not here too, and so are Mr. Zachary and Ms. Rory,” the butler answered.

Right then, Allie came out of the mansion.

Seeing Avery at the gate, she came and waved at the butler, telling the latter to leave them alone.

The butler gave Avery a polite bow before he left.

After the butler left, Allie turned to Avery coldly. “What are you doing here?”

“It has nothing to do with you.” Avery closed the gate and left.

She did not wish to hear another word from Allie.

Allie stood by the gate and sneered as she watched Avery enter the taxi. Then, she turned around and looked at the butler who was walking away. “Hold on.”

The butler stopped in his tracks.

“What did she say to you just now?” Allie asked.

“Ms. Rumpley asked if her grandpa was here, so I told her he wasn't. She then asked to see Mr. Moore, but I told her Mr. Moore and the children were not here,” the butler answered truthfully.

Allie looked down and pondered over the matter. Has Old Mr. Rumpley left without telling her? Otherwise, why would she be searching everywhere for him? She even came to find him here.

Meanwhile, Avery instructed the taxi driver to bring her downtown.

Since Zachary and Rory are not in the Moore residence, they are likely staying with their father in the downtown condominium.

Avery tried calling Cayden again, but she still could not reach him.

Soon, Avery arrived at the condominium's entrance, but the receptionist refused to let her in, as she did not have a key.

Thus, Avery said, “I know the unit number. If I press the doorbell, the owner will let me in.”

The receptionist nodded.

Avery then pressed the intercom button.

The receptionist broke the rules to let Avery use the intercom because Avery had told the receptionist that her grandfather had gone missing. It concerned a life-threatening emergency, so the receptionist agreed to Avery's request.

Otherwise, even the condominium management hardly ever used the intercom for fear of disturbing the unit owners.

After all, every owner of the condominium was wealthy and influential.

When the doorbell sounded, Avery and the receptionist were already standing in the elevator to go up.

“I am Avery. Can I come in for a while?” Avery asked softly the moment the intercom was connected. She did not wait for Cayden to speak.

Cayden paused for a few seconds before replying, “You can come up here.”
