As he placed the emerald necklace around Avery's neck, Cayden spoke. “This necklace is equipped with a locator. As long as you wear it, I can find you no matter where you are.”
Avery felt the necklace's exceptional smoothness, her lips pursing in amazement.
It was primarily because she did not expect that the necklace, which only cost several thousand, would contain a high-tech component.
I've always thought that such technology is only found in expensive necklaces.
Nonetheless, Avery did not dwell on it because she had always trusted Cayden.
“Does it look good?” she asked after he had put the necklace on for her.
Avery, who was in the early stages of pregnancy, still had a slender frame. At that moment, she was as happy as a young girl in love receiving a gift from her beloved.
Cayden looked at her and nodded. “Yes.”
Right now, Avery is my sweetheart.
The two spent over half an hour strolling through the peach blossom forest. When Avery eventually became weary, Cayden carried her the entire way back to the hotel.
As a five-star establishment, the hotel was undoubtedly very opulent.
Their room had a sizable circular waterbed encircled by multiple layers of flowering roses. The white drapes that were hanging from the ceiling shimmered in enigmatic hues.
Avery could not help but marvel at the exquisite decor of the hotel and was curiously studying how the roses managed to stay so vibrant in the room.
Being a designer, the first thing she paid attention to when visiting a new place was its design style and decor. She could study its strengths and use them to make up for her weaknesses by doing this, and it would also provide her with a steady source of creative inspiration for her works.
While Avery was studying the unique interior design of the hotel, Cayden was talking with the mysterious man in a room on the top floor.
“Congratulations on your return to the country.”
His clear and stern voice rang forth, accompanied by the crisp sound of wine glasses clinking. “How does it feel to be back on native soil?”
The tall, slender silhouette in front of the floor-to-ceiling window turned around, revealing an incredibly startling face.
While the right side of his face was unbelievably attractive, the left side was horrifying and disturbing, looking as though it had been scorched by a raging fire, hideous like a devil emerging from hell.
“Heh! The feeling of coming home is great...” The man's deep, gruff voice was surprisingly pleasant, but his expression was downright frigid. “The best has yet to come.”
Cayden observed the man's grim expression as he slouched against the couch, idly swirling his wine glass with a half-smile. “Sid Newman, I didn't go through so much trouble to get you out just to see you pulling a long face.”
The man named Sid cast a casual glance at Cayden. Without making any attempt to seem polite, he lit a cigarette and raised an eyebrow. “Tell me. What do you want me to do?”
Instead of responding to the question, Cayden cautioned as if out of concern, “You should smoke less. Take care, or you'll die early from lung cancer.”
Sid continued puffing out smoke plumes calmly without lifting his gaze. “Haven't you heard of a saying that virtuous people don't live long lives, but evil people do? I'm sure you know that I'm not a good person, so your curse won't work on me.”
Cayden merely smiled in response.
This guy is still as obnoxious and conceited as always. Although he appears to be extremely young, he's no ordinary person. His most astounding past wasn't the legendary wealth he amassed, but his exceptionally high Intellect. He's the most renowned genius business con artist and the FBI's youngest-ever wanted criminal.
Sid was skilled in counter-surveillance. He could fake a variety of professions with ease, making it impossible for police to apprehend him. On the day of his closest call, when his whereabouts were unfortunately exposed, countless police officers raised their guns and began to mob him. However, they never anticipated that, at the crucial moment, he would disguise himself as an FBI agent, relying on his incredible acting abilities, and ultimately manage to escape.
Later, he decided to quit and stop committing financial fraud, although he continued to lead a decadent lifestyle. On one occasion, he impregnated the mistress of a mob boss, which led to the mob going after him.
The angry and humiliated mob boss mobilized all his power to track him down. In addition to destroying half of Sid's attractive face, he even intended to shoot the latter dead when Cayden, who was on a business trip abroad, just so happened to run across them.
After learning his identity, Cayden paid a hefty sum of money in exchange for his life.
However, Sid was accustomed to being frivolous and lackadaisical, so he could not care less about Cayden saving his life. Instead, he put forward a condition that he would fulfill three favors for Cayden to the best of his ability to repay his kindness.
Once the favors were completed, they would not cross paths again.
Cayden unfathomably agreed.
As a shrewd businessman, he naturally knew that Sid was a genius, only that his intellect was not applied in the right place. If he returns to the righteous path, the ransom I spent for him is nothing. I'll recover the money back hundreds and thousands of times over.
“Actually, it's not a big deal. I just thought that since you're idle, why don't you come and work at my company? I need someone to expand the market in South Adrune. I'll hire you as the general manager, and you can expand the business there,” he said.
With raised eyebrows, Sid took a few drags from his cigarette and slowly puffed out a ring of smoke before responding a little irritably, “You know that I've never played by the rules, let alone conform to them. You're better off killing me than making me work in your company. Could you switch the favor for something else?”
Cayden chuckled. Sid is as free-spirited as the legend portrays. I don't mind that, though. Everything else is trivial as long as he can add value to my business.
Sid did not know what the other man was laughing at, but he felt somewhat dazed as he stared at the attractive and remarkable man before him. Who would've guessed that this man is the devil of the corporate world? Naturally, this title refers to his vicious and ruthless manner of doing things rather than his appearance. He has a gorgeous visage and a refined, carefree smile, yet back then, he was able to hold his own and calmly negotiate with the murderous mob boss with a smile. Even I feel humbled by how he handled the cunning and deceitful business games...
After Cayden finally stopped chuckling, he gave Sid a serious look and said, “Mr. Newman, you're not required to clock in or come to work punctually as normal employees do. You merely need to come to the company every day to manage a few simple tasks. The time is entirely up to you. Oh, you can also work remotely as long as you can complete the tasks. Naturally, I won't underpay a talented individual like you.”
He believed that anyone would be attracted by such a generous offer. Moreover, an unruly wastrel like Sid needs money now...
