Yulissa scolded Avery harshly and without mercy.
Avery felt humiliated but could only endure it since she was at fault.
She wished she could hide in a cave when she thought of her mistake.
Why didn't I pay full attention while working? How could I have made such a foolish mistake after working for so long?
With clenched fists, Avery assured Yulissa, “I'm sorry, Ms. Yantz. I will never make this mistake again. Please have faith in me.”
Yulissa ignored her and became even more aggressive. “Don't be conceited after only making a minor contribution. Stop acting as you wish just because someone has got your back. An irresponsible employee like you should quit voluntarily. My department does not welcome trash!
Cecelia was enraged after seeing Avery getting criticized by Yulissa.
She stood with her baby bump and defended Avery, “Ms. Yantz, I'm sure our department members are well aware of Avery's capabilities. She has worked hard in her position since she started working here and has never made a mistake in the past six months. Instead, our company received more orders due to her creative designs. Personally, I don't think we can discredit her hard work.”
Nina stood up as well. “Ms. Yantz, I'm sure the management knows how much profit Avery has generated for the company. Don't you think you're over the line for attacking her verbally because of one mistake? Many newcomers who just joined the company have made more mistakes than Avery, some even more severe than that, but I have never seen you embarrass them like this.”
Nina's words were brutally honest.
Indeed, every newcomer who entered the design department of Trident Group would make mistakes at work, no matter how careful they were, since they were new to the industry.
Although Yulissa would criticize them, her words were never as harsh as now.
It was harsh to the point people would think they were enemies instead of having a superior-subordinate relationship.
Cecelia and Nina were like two rifles, shooting bullets at Yulissa nonstop.
In truth, they knew it was unwise to talk back to their superior at work. Yulissa could harm their career. She could deduct their bonuses and salaries and even fire them.
Cecelia and Nina, however, were fearless.
One of the reasons was that they knew Avery had someone more significant supporting and siding with her. On top of that, they felt Avery was good at her work and only made one mistake. She didn't deserve to be humiliated by Yulissa in front of all her colleagues.
All employees of the design department stopped working and watched Yulissa and Avery.
Everyone had a tacit understanding that Avery was Cayden's woman.
Ms. Yantz is bold. Where did she find the courage to scold Avery? Isn't she scared that Avery would tell Mr. Moore and get her fired?
Yulissa was infuriated since they disrespected her in front of the crowd. She sneered, “Look at you two! How can you defend Avery instead of correcting her after she made a mistake?”
With that, Yulissa slammed the folder that she was holding on the table and went straight to Wisteria's office.
However, her anger mounted since Wisteria was not in her office.
Yulissa had never been fond of Cecelia and Nina since they were close to Avery, whom she detested. Now that they teamed up against her, she decided to hate them too.
After Yulissa left, everyone returned to their work again.
“Why did you bear with it, Avery? Why didn't you say anything when it's clear that Ms. Yantz tried to humiliate you? Don't be a pushover.” Nina didn't understand Avery.
Avery chuckled wryly in response. “I made a mistake. It's normal to get criticized for it. I can't retaliate.”
Cecelia wanted to tell Avery not to be so weak. However, after seeing the latter's listless look, she thought the latter was uncomfortable after being scolded earlier, so she patted Nina on the shoulder and signaled her to stop.
The two left Avery alone to calm down.
For some reason, Avery had been feeling restless the whole day, as though something terrible would happen. Thus, she hadn't really been able to focus while working, leading to her mistake.
Avery tried to abandon all distracting thoughts and forced herself not to overthink. Then, she began to draw her design using the software. However, she made multiple mistakes at things that she could usually complete effortlessly.
She wasn't in the mood to draw any longer, and for the first time, she had the urge to go to the CEO's office to see Cayden.
However, Cayden was usually the one to call her through the internal line and ask her to see him.
She felt torn and wondered if she should go to see him.
In the end, Avery decided to send him a message through WhatsApp.
Avery downloaded a cute sticker package in the WhatsApp chat box. Then, she chose an adorable sticker with the words “I want kisses and hugs” and sent it to Cayden.
However, to her dismay, her mood did not improve.
At the CEO's office, Wisteria stood before Cayden's desk while reporting on the progress of Western Epea's project.
“Mr. Moore, the affairs in Western Epea have been dealt with. Last month, my team successfully signed a project worth seven hundred million with AC Design from Ustrana, which is a great start for next year.”
“That's great. If there's anything you want as a reward, do tell me. I'll try my best to satisfy you.”
A flash of admiration crossed Cayden's eyes as he looked at Wisteria.
He had never been stingy about monetary rewards to employees who had contributed significantly to the company.
Wisteria hesitated before speaking her mind. “Mr. Moore, I hope to be transferred back to the headquarters. Is that okay?
She worked hard to complete the tasks he assigned her, not only to prove she was a good match for him but, more importantly, so that she could be by his side instead of being far away from him.
Cayden noticed Wisteria's eagerness to be transferred back, which made him narrow his eyes.
He could not understand why Wisteria wanted to be transferred to the headquarters.
Suddenly, Cayden thought of the lady's lace underwear that inexplicably appeared in his car a few months ago.
There was a rift in the relationship between him and Avery due to that incident, and the two had developed trust issues.
Cayden probed, “Ms. Summers, do you remember when you sat in my car previously? Did you perhaps leave any personal belonging behind?”
In an instant, Wisteria tensed. She could feel her heart racing after she heard his words. Has he discovered something?
