The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 518

Chapter 518 Trust Her

Inside the mansion, Cayden played a video game with his kids on the living room couch. Meanwhile, Avery was chatting with Nina in her bedroom on the phone.

Nina complained, “A few days ago, I accidentally bumped into a weird man. He has an absolutely awful personality, I tell you! Now, he's torturing me every day. Not only does he demand me to tend to his daily necessities, but he's also treating me like a maid or a slave! That man's going to drive me crazy!”

In response, Avery did her best to comfort Nina and calm her friend down.

Although, she couldn't help but chuckle at how angry her friend was. Ever since that incident, Nina has appeared pretty gloomy or just acted indifferently. It's been a long while since I've seen her being this energetic.

After the two chatted for a while, Nina lowered her voice and asked, “Did you see the news recently, Ery?”

Avery replied, “I've been busy researching stuff as well as the design samples left behind by seniors, so I didn't pay that much attention to the news. What's wrong, Nina?”

A brief silence ensued before Nina stuttered, “I-It's nothing...”

Nina is acting strange today. With that thought in mind, Avery pressed, “What's going on? You don't sound all right. We've known each other for years. I know you too well, so I'm certain you're hiding something from me.”

Nina recalled her boss' warning and thought about how nicely Avery had treated her. Argh, hang him!

In the end, she gritted her teeth and blurted, “Do you know Mr. Moore's getting engaged to Nicole tomorrow?”

“Oh, they're getting engaged already?” While Avery knew the day would come, and that Cayden was evading the matter, she still felt hurt to hear it. With a complicated look, she replied, “I know about it.”

Enraged and disappointed, Nina questioned, “Why is your reaction to the news of your man's engagement with another woman so indifferent, Ery? Shouldn't you question him? Why are you acting like this? I thought Mr. Moore was deeply in love with you, so why does he have an engagement with Nicole? He changes his mind way too quickly!”

It genuinely confounded her as to why Avery was acting oddly passive while she was chiding Cayden for her.

Softly, Avery informed, “There are some things I can't explain to you clearly right now. However, I'll do it once I have the time. In any case, I believe in Cayden and his decisions. I know he's fighting for our future.”

After hanging up the call, she felt dazed.

Then she opened the windows and saw the rest of her family having a great time in the living room.

After Rory lost while playing a game, she acted like a spoiled kid in Cayden's embrace and asked him to help her win. Seconds later, she trotted to her brother and intentionally made funny faces at him to disturb him while he was playing.

Both Cayden and Zachary treated her with great affection. Not only did they condone her behavior, but they would also occasionally make her laugh.

Avery felt exceptionally satisfied as she gazed at her happy family.

While it pained her to hear Cayden was going to be engaged with another woman earlier, it no longer mattered to her after what she saw.

She believed Cayden would handle the issue well and that her family would have a happily ever after.

...

Back in the Lambert residence, Nicole clutched the newspaper announcing the union between the Moore family and the Lambert family.

Furiously, she tore the newspaper into pieces and smashed everything in her room.

She screamed, cried, and appeared as if she was shattered apart after falling from the heavens and crashing into hell.

Her hair was disheveled, the delicate makeup on her countenance was ruined by her tears, and her palm was bleeding after it was cut by a broken piece of a vase.

The overwhelming humiliation and fear dominating her heart were destabilizing her mental state.

As she sat in her bedroom, she cried and laughed, acting like a madwoman.

Afraid that Nicole would do something stupid, Polly hastily called Claire.

Twenty minutes later, Claire arrived back home in a hurry. William, who was busy with work, was also summoned home by her.

When she saw the mess in Nicole's room and the blood on her daughter's palm, she embraced her child with heartache. “What's going on with you, my child? Tell me what happened. Why did you do this?”

Panickily, she bandaged Nicole's injury.

It crushed her to see her precious daughter, her pride and joy, appear so... broken.

Nicole withdrew her bloody hand and clutched Claire's arm. A wretched, creepy smile settled on her pale countenance, making her seem as though she had lost her mind.

As Claire wiped her daughter's tears away, she asked, “What happened, Nicole? You're scaring me. Wake up, Nickie...”

William's heart wrenched as he stared at his daughter. “Did someone bully you, Nickie? Tell me who that person is, and I'll kick the person's arse for you!”

Tears streamed down Nicole's cheeks as she spoke tremblingly with an empty look in her eyes. “Mom, Dad, Cayden promised to marry me and sever his relationship with Avery. However, he's been lying to me. Earlier today, I saw him hiding Avery in an obscure, remote mansion. They seemed to be having a great time together as a family. Did you know how much agony I was in when I saw that?”

“Is what you said true, Nickie?” Lividly, he inquired in disbelief, “He's still together with that Avery?”

She laughed sarcastically before replying in a bitter and sorrowful tone, “I saw it with my own eyes. I can't believe that everything Cayden did for me was a lie. He didn't mean it when he agreed to marry me! It was all just an act! What a joke!”

William's rage burned even brighter. “This is outrageous! The Moore family has crossed the line! My daughter isn't someone they can bully! Don't cry, Nickie. I'll give you the justice you deserve! First, we'll call off the engagement. Then, we'll demand the Moore family to apologize to you in the newspaper!”

Upon hearing that, Nicole was so shocked that she stopped crying and shook her head. “No, no! Please don't do that, Dad. I love Cayden. I'll never call off our engagement! While he doesn't love me now, once we've gotten married long enough, he'll naturally develop feelings for me. Please give us a chance, won't you? Right now, we just need to chase Avery out of Ackleton. Once she's gone, Cayden's heart will return to me...”

“I can see you're obsessed with him. Oh, Nickie. What should I do with you?” Claire sighed.

I don't know why she's so enamored with Cayden. I was going to advise her to abandon this one-sided relationship, but I couldn't say no when I saw the empty look of despair in her eyes. For the first time, an icy expression appeared on her gentle face. “We'll visit the Moore residence tonight, Will. No matter what, we must demand an explanation from the Moore family! Tomorrow is Cayden's and Nickie's engagement, and I don't want anything to go wrong!” Ever since Nickie was a child, I've always helped her get what she wanted. This time is no exception. I'm going to make sure that Avery can't stay in Ackleton any longer!
