Chapter 519 Hope
When Jeffrey and Allie stormed into the mansion, Cayden was shocked but not surprised.
Still, he furrowed his eyebrows. “Why are you here, Mom, Grandpa?”
A scowl was set on Jeffrey's countenance as he stepped toward his grandson with a cane.
Behind him were Allie and a few bodyguards in black clothing.
The look in the old man's eyes darkened when he saw Avery standing in front of the couch.
He slammed his cane on the ground and questioned Cayden with dissatisfaction. “I thought she left already. Why are you still with her?”
The furious look in Jeffrey's eyes grew complicated when he saw Avery's baby bump.
Suddenly, the living room turned eerily silent, and the atmosphere tense.
Avery lowered her head and didn't have the nerve to greet the visitors because she didn't want to see the look of disdain in Jeffrey's and Allie's eyes.
Instead of answering his grandfather's question, Cayden attempted to help him sit on the couch.
Unfortunately, the old man didn't appreciate his grandson's kindness and shoved the latter's arm away.
Allie then helped Jeffrey sit down. Seconds later, he pointed his cane at the grandson he was usually proud of and roared, “If William and his wife didn't pay us a visit earlier, I wouldn't have known you're doing such a horrendous thing! You agreed to sever your relationship with this woman and marry the Lambert family's daughter, yet you're hiding this woman in your house. What do you have to say about this?”
Cayden gazed at his grandfather sternly. “Avery's still pregnant with my child, Grandpa. Not to mention she had a severe accident some time ago. So, I have a responsibility to take care of her. You wouldn't want to see anything happen to your unborn grandchild, do you? Who told you about this place, Grandpa?”
Back then, he bought the mansion for two reasons. Firstly, the environment was great, suitable for a pregnant woman to recuperate. Secondly, it had a good location that allowed for unique security measures.
The mansion's purchase was done by himself. Even his assistant didn't know about the place.
Yet, his grandfather found it nonetheless.
Therefore, someone must've either leaked or discovered the mansion's location.
When Cayden thought about how his privacy had been exposed, he narrowed his eyes. I'll make whoever tells Grandpa this place regret his decision!
“Don't change the subject! Are you afraid someone will discover your despicable act? I think you're bewitched by this woman, considering you can't even tell what is more important!” Jeffrey glared at Avery and became even more infuriated when he saw her keep lowering her head. Initially, I had a good impression of her because I thought she seemed pure and innocent. To my surprise, she keeps doing one awful thing after another! I no longer have a positive impression of her! Back then, even though she was with Cayden, she secretly registered her marriage with Dylan! Because of that, the grandson I'm proud of became a third wheel in their relationship! After it was proven that she was forced to marry Dylan, she left him. However, in the eyes of the law, she was still considered a divorced woman. Cayden marrying a divorced woman would give our family a bad name. However, there's nothing I can do about it because he loves her. Heck, he'd probably marry her even if her name is tarnished. Then after that, she refused Cayden's proposal during their engagement ceremony, embarrassing the Moore family in front of the media! I care immensely about our family's reputation, so I won't allow my grandson to marry a woman like her!
Allie added, “Listen to your grandfather and me, Cayden. Cut ties with this woman and don't contact her again. The Lambert family told us they don't want any trouble since your engagement with Nickie is tomorrow. They requested that you must bid this woman goodbye and that she must leave Ackleton tonight!”
As Avery stared at Cayden, she suppressed her emotions. I'm afraid he'll obey his family and send me to an unknown city. The only thing I'm genuinely terrified of is that I can't see him again. He's the hope I cling to keep on living.
Meanwhile, the twins, who were woken up by the noise in the living room, descended the stairs sleepily in their cartoon pajamas.
When they saw their great-grandfather and grandmother, they were going to greet them. However, Allie furiously admonished, “I was wondering why the two of them were often not home! You told me you hired a famous professor to tutor them and that he refused to do so at home because he didn't want to. Now I know you're keeping them here! I can't believe you're lying even to your own mother, Cayden Moore!”
The twins were dumbfounded by their grandmother's fierce demeanor and didn't have the nerve to head downstairs.
They knew that whenever their grandmother's face was scrunched up, it meant she was livid. Therefore, if they interacted with her at that moment, they would only get spanked.
Jeffrey shot a displeased glance at Allie to warn her not to go overboard.
After all, he wished to avoid leaving a bad impression on his precious great-grandchildren. He just wanted to settle Cayden's matter.
While Allie was still incensed, she shut her mouth upon receiving her father-in-law's warning.
Stifling his anger, Jeffrey ordered, “Ask this woman to leave first, Cayden. Then, we'll talk.”
Avery was glad she didn't need to stay because the atmosphere was suffocating.
Thus, she stood and was prepared to head upstairs when Cayden carried her back to the bedroom instead.
That infuriated Allie, so much so that she gritted her teeth until she felt pain. Even though this woman is disabled, Cayden still dotes on her!
After Cayden brought Avery back to the bedroom, he kissed her forehead. “Rest here. I'll return after a little while. You don't have to worry. I'll handle this.”
Then he summoned the twins and informed them, “Keep Mommy company. If anything happens, call for me.”
The children nodded obediently before Cayden headed downstairs.
After he sat tiredly opposite Jeffrey, he spat, “If you have anything else you want to tell me, do it in one go, Grandpa.”
The old man studied his grandson with a dark look. “I want you to proceed with your engagement with the Lambert family's daughter tomorrow. This woman cannot stay in Ackleton any longer. I want her gone tonight. If you can't do it, I'll do it for you. Otherwise, don't blame me for what I'll do. You know how ugly things tend to end when I handle them.”
The cold look in Cayden's eyes abruptly turned sharp. “In that case, I'm afraid I'll be disappointing you, Grandpa. I'm canceling my engagement ceremony with the Lambert family's daughter tomorrow!”
