Luisa’s words smashed into Kris like a huge ball of ice. For several seconds, he stood frozen, his mind reeling, unable to fully process the accusation that had just been hurled at him. 

When he finally regained his senses, his widened eyes shifted from Luisa to Thalassa. 

“What is she… what is she talking about, Thalassa?” 

Thalassa didn’t respond. She just stared back at him with the same coldness in her eyes. It was Luisa who broke the silence. 

“Don’t even try to deny it, Kris. Carmen told us everything. She told us how you sought her out and offered her a million dollars to sneak into the company after hours and destroy all our hard work.” 

“Carmen?” Kris’s voice rose in disbelief. “Who the hell is Carmen? I’ve never met any of your models, and I certainly would never ask anyone to do such a thing. What’s wrong with you?” 

He turned his pleading eyes back to Thalassa. “Las… Thalassa, please tell me you don’t believe anything whoever this Carmen is, said to you. You don’t, right?” 

His breath trembled as he waited for her answer, waited for her to tell him that she trusted him. But the accusatory look in her eyes gave him a completely different answer. 

Kris felt like a thousand knives had been driven into his chest at once, making him stumble back from the gruelling impact. 

“Thalassa…” he whispered, his voice filled with confusion, his hand shaking as he stepped closer to her. “You… you really think I would be capable of doing something like that to you?” 

Luisa planted her hands on her hips unrelentingly. “Cut the crap, Kris. None of us is buying it. The only reason we didn’t expose you in front of everyone is that you managed to eliminate any evidence linking you to the sabotage. 

Kris’s gaze remained focused on Thalassa because her opinion was the only one he cared about. “Please think about this? Why would I do something like that to you?” 

Gritting her teeth, Thalassa seemed to finally find her voice as she sneered, “Have you forgotten what you said to me outside the police station when I told you that I wasn’t going to stop until I make your mother pay for all the wrong she has done? You told me you wouldn’t let me hurt her, and you’d fight to defend her if you had to.” 

“Yes, I did say I would defend my mother,” Kris accepted, then let out a frustrated sigh. “But what does that have to do with wanting your hardwork to go down the drain? Saying that I will protect my mother doesn’t mean I would want to hurt you.” 

A bitter smile formed on Thalassa’s lips. “Oh, it has got so much to do with it. You knew that if I took the ultimate title from your mother, then her company was going to sink even further and possibly collapse. That’s why you had my designs destroyed; so that I wouldn’t even be able to compete for the title.” 

Kris was stunned by everything she was saying. The fact that she believed he could do something so awful to her just because someone told her that hurt him so fucking much. 

“Thalassa, I know that deep down, you don’t believe any of what you’re saying,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady, but the pain in his voice was unmistakable. “You know I would never do anything to hurt you.” 

“Wouldn’t you?” she shot back, her tone mocking, her eyes filled with both anger and pain. “Should I refresh your memory a bit? Because my memory tells me a different story, Kris.” 

Kris felt his stomach twist with regret, realizing she was referring to their marriage when he’d done everything to
